Dear First Grade Families, 1-16-18
On Thursday, January 18, students will be taking the Math NWEA test on the computer. Please talk to your child about taking their time and trying their best. Also, please make sure your child gets a lot of rest and has a healthy breakfast. The following week students will take the Reading NWEA test.
The Unit 5 Math lessons include learning about place value; less than, greater than, and equal to symbols; number stories; addition; subtraction; telling time; and counting money.
Reading lessons focus on using the story map to practice retelling stories.
We are learning about opinion writing again and students are currently writing about their favorite season.
Social Studies lessons include the study of economics. Students are learning about needs, wants, goods, services, producers and consumers. Students will make products to sell at the first grade market day at the end of our unit.
Science lessons continue to focus on the study of light and sound waves.
The second report card marking period will end on Friday, January 26. That Friday is a half day for students.
Reminders: Read 15 minutes or more for homework and record minutes on reading log. Return library books on Monday. Wear gym shoes on Wednesday. We have a late start on Wednesday, January 17.
Have a great week!
Mrs. Dobronski
