Thursday Colors Assignment: Please choose one or more of the activities below and send in a picture/video

  • Color sorting: label any container (for example cups or bowls) with the colors Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple. Then have your student sort any small objects (paper, pencils, crayons, toys) into the container. Example: I have a red crayon, so I would place the crayon into the container labeled “Red”.

  • Color Scavenger Hunt: label any large container (for example buckets, baskets, or bowls) with the colors Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple (you can use one container if you want, just change the label after each color). Then have your student look around the house for 2 minutes and put as many objects of that color in the container. Count how many objects of each color they find. Example: The basket is labeled “Red”, so I take that basket around the house and put a red apple, a fire truck, and a red shoe into the basket before time is up. I take out the objects and count them ‘1, 2, 3’. Then I label the basket “Orange” and search for another 2 minutes.

  • Spelling Color Words: Take 6 Popsicle sticks (Or use paper) and write out the colors Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple. Then take clothes pins (or small pieces of paper or small letter toys) and write out the letters in each word. Then have your student match the letters on the clothes pins to the letters on the Popsicle sticks. Example 1: I have the Popsicle stick labeled ‘RED’, so I take clothes pins with the letters ‘R’, ‘E’, and ‘D’ on them and clip them on top of the matching letter. Example 2: I have the paper with ‘BLUE’ written on it, so I find the small pieces of paper with the letters ‘B’, ‘L’, ‘U’, and ‘E’ written on them and place them on top of the matching letter.
