Students want extra practice in math. If your child wants to or is in need of extra support in math, they can continue to use Zearn and Khan Academy. Beyond that, your child can bring home their math book for extra practice. We don’t always complete every math problem in each lesson, but your child can. They can take home their book, but must bring it back each day for the next day’s lesson. They can also complete every problem of their homework assignment instead of only the ones I assign. The more they practice…the better!
I would like to encourage you to read to your child. Include your child when making a list, reading a recipe, jotting down an email, etc. Read to them before they go to bed at night. You can read them a story they may be interested in, but not quite ready to read on their own. All of this develops vocabulary & interest. Please share stories with them about your families and when you were young. Reading in your native language is also a benefit. Children need to see you reading for pleasure too. Reading to your child is the one thing you can do to promote reading literacy.
One more thing…
The students need to have earbuds/headphones for the classroom. They often times view videos as part of their lesson. Some of the students are working on different parts of a lesson, so videos need to be viewed using earbuds.
It has been a busy week for us. We are learning about rounding numbers with decimals using vertical number lines in math, parts of speech in grammar, spelling, characteristics of the main character in reading, government in social studies, and narrative writing. In science we are now ready, after practicing the scientific method, to start our unit on matter tomorrow.
The students are planning for their first Mid-Module assessment in math on Friday. This assessment covers lessons 1-8. Their first spelling test is Friday as well!
Friday is a half day. Dismissal at 11:45!
