As you know, we have started our fraction unit. Many students are having difficulty with parts of a whole. We use number lines to show parts, and talk about money to share how much is left. For example, if I have 1/4 of a dollar, how much is left? It has come to my attention that many of our students do not know how to count money because they rarely use it. Teaching our students how to make change from a dollar to five dollars would be so helpful in learning this concept. Making change is nothing more than parts of a whole. Money understanding is taught in the younger grades, so it is expected they know it when they get to 5th grade. Unfortunately, they don’t. Please help me teach them this concept.
I wanted to say we ended the week on a high note! The week was a bit rough with a lot of talking and students off task. However, today we were on point! All the students were focused on their work. Whatever you fed them for breakfast, please repeat everyday next week. The week before a holiday is usually a bit trying, but I am hoping next week is the same as today. Thank you again for all your support!
Holiday Party-Pancakes and Pajamas December 20th! Students can wear their pajamas, and plan on pancakes for lunch. Please send in $5.00 by Friday, Dec. 13 for needed items to make this the best party ever!
Book Exchange-December 20th the students will exchange a book(present) with each other. If your child brings a book, they will get a book. This is always an exciting surprise for the kids. Send in your wrapped book by Dec. 20.

The Howard Student Council members will have newspapers at each of our corners tomorrow morning. Please consider driving by when dropping your child off, and donate to this worthy cause!

Hello Howard families! We have had some questions on the process of submitting artwork for the Reflections competition. This is what you need to know to help your student!
This year the topic is “LOOK WITHIN”. Students may choose any or all of the following 6 options:
- Visual
- Arts
- Dance
- Film
- Literature
- Music
- Composition
- Photography
Your student will complete a project and submit it to the office by the end of the school day on December 16th.
RULES
Student must have their names clearly printed on the BACK of their projects. Submissions cannot be judged with a name that is visible from the front.
The entry form must be filled out and submitted with the project. (attached)
The STATEMENT is as important as the art work. (This is a sentence explaining how the piece portrays the topic of “look within”)
If your student is submitting something that needs to be recorded (Dance, music, film, etc…) Please submit this on a flash drive in an envelope marked with the student’s first and last name.
NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE CONSIDERED! We are on a very strict deadline this year!
if you have any questions please email Bethany Caldarona at bethanycaldarona@gmail.com
