Today we did a C.E.R. (claim, evidence, and reasoning) activity that involved solving a mystery using evidence from a story and picture. They worked in groups to discuss relevant evidence and why that evidence is important to proving what really happened.  We had a lot of fun and write our full predictions on Monday!

Middle school reading success is all about comprehension and expanding their vocabulary! If you would like to be more involved in working on reading at home, here are some resources to get you started! Simply ask these questions before, during, or after your student has completed their 20-60 minutes of reading at home! Click on the links to find out more:

We began class with our at home reading Bellwork prompt. We then revisited our Class Agreement from the first week of school and evaluated how we were doing with our expectations of each other. We will visit this frequently throughout the school year!  Our Class Dojo is up and running! I will send home codes with the students next week if you are interested in checking in with their Dojo. Checkout www.classdojo.com for more information!

We also were assigned groups on Newsela so we can begin implementing this piece of our curriculum into our daily routine next week. We practiced two rounds of Daily 5 today as well and worked on our stamina! All classes made it to the 20 minute mark today!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Today we created our Reading Progress board for the class. We created our favorite emoji on a sticker and put our individualized sticker up under the “Fall” category. We will track our progress throughout the rest of the year using our NWEA RIT scores. The goal is to grow in reading!

We were also introduced to the End of Novel One-Pager.  When students complete their two required books per marking period, they will complete a One-Pager assignment and turn it in to the pink bucket.  Two One-Pagers on two different books a student has finished reading are due by November 3rd, however I encourage these to be turned in ASAP because students will be allowed to “Fix” or “Redo” this summative grade for more points if points were lost. If you wait until the last day of the card marking (November 3rd), this will not be possible for you! I will create a tab on my blog soon that has each One-Pager direction sheet on it.

The remainder of the class was spent working on “Read to Self” stamina. Most classes made it to 20 minutes uninterrupted today!
