Wed./Thurs. Synchronous Time

Today we reviewed our upcoming due dates. Students were encouraged to write the due dates down. They are also posted in the Asynchronous Work section of my blog.

We reviewed how to check how many quizzes we have on ReadTheory as well.

We then signed up for Newsela and practiced how to follow the directions. We previewed the article and found words we don’t know. We used our vocabulary strategies to figure out what we thought the word meant. We then read the article and made a total of 10 annotations with our thoughts about what we are reading. This was due at the end of class or it was homework.

Mon/Tues Asynchronous Work

  1. ReadTheory (5 quizzes)– log onto ReadTheory and finish the pretest so you can start your homework quizzes – 5 quizzes due Friday @ 3:10pm
  2. All About Me Virtual One-Pager Presentation – due Friday @ 3:10pm!
  3. Summer Learning Book Talk Google Slide Presentation – due September 25th – all students must complete this, even students new to district. If you haven’t read a book over the summer you need to start reading a chapter book now. No graphic novels.

This week’s schedule break down

  • Wednesday – A day (students have Ms. Jones)
  • Thursday – B day (students have Ms. Jones)
  • Friday – A day (students have Mr. Peterson)

Your Zoom sessions are set up in your teachers’ Schoology courses. Should you have any Tech issues during Synchronous time (AM), you need to contact the Dearborn Technology Department 313-827-8400. Shutting down your computer (closing the Chromebook is NOT shutting it down) or making sure you are completely logged out of all other Google accounts on the device you are using fixes most issues.

Mon/Tues Synchronous Time

We went over the expectations for ReadTheory. Studenst must take the pretest on Monday/Tuesday and complete their 5 passed quizzes Wednesday-Friday.

There are still 12 students that have not signed up for ReadTheory correctly because they were absent or it wasn’t working for them. I sent out a Zoom link for a ReadTheory help session – you NEED to join this session if you don’t have a ReadTheory account. We will have another one on Tuesday @12:30pm – check your email for the link.

We also to the 6th grade Language Arts Pre-test so I know where to begin with my teaching. If you did not complete this during class – you were told to submit it anyways – during your asynchronous time this week, please go back and fix the ones you left blank. If you did not submit it to me like I instructed you to, you will have to restart from the beginning.

Read Theory Make Up

If you have passed 5 quizzes each week, then on June 5th, the amount of quizzes you will have needed to pass for full credit will be 40.

I know some of you are behind on Read Theory for the year and need to make up quizzes for late work. I am going to give you the next eight weeks to work on making up those late assignments and improve your grade for the end of the year. For those of you who fall into this category, if you use September 23rd as your start date and June 5th as your end date and the amount of quizzes you have passed is 185, I will go back and give you full credit for all of your missing Read Theory from the year. This will not go back and change the grades on your report cards but it will help improve your year-long average at the end of the year. You must have both components to receive full credit for the entire school year. If you do not have late Read Theory, don’t worry, this will not apply to you. Should you decide to make these up, it is your responsibility to email me that you have 185 passed Read Theory from September 23rd-June 5th

Read Theory

We will continue to use Read Theory in the way we normally would for the remainder of the school year. You must pass 5 Read Theory quizzes each week through June 5th. That means you should be using April 13th as your start date and June 5th as your end date to check how many quizzes you have passed.

IXL – 1 a week

You will be assigned one IXL skills to complete weekly.

  • This week is J #2
  • All IXL are due by 3:00 pm on Friday of the week assigned.
