Daily Expectations:
Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe. Our classrooms are protected environments! This means that students will respect everyone, treat them kindly and follow the student code of conduct. All students will participate in the Positive Behavior Intervention System established at Bryant Middle School. Bully behavior will NOT be tolerated. Our goal is to assist your child in better decision making and hold them accountable for their decisions.
Planners
Students are expected to carry a planner at all times school-wide. They are a part of their identification as a student at Bryant Middle School. If a student is found in the hallway without a planner they will immediately be sent back to class. Lost planners will need to be replaced at the owner’s expense ($5.00) as soon as possible!
Participation and Grading
Students should arrive to class on time with the materials necessary for success. They are expected to participate daily and complete all assignments on time, including homework. Student work is expected to be neat and demonstrate their best ability. Formative assessments will represent 20% of their report card grade. Students are expected to demonstrate mastery of material presented in class. Tests, quizzes, and projects represent 80% of a student’s grade.
Grading Scale:
100-99 = A+ 89-88 = B+ 79-78 = C+ 69-68 = D+ 59-0 = E
98-93 = A 87-83 = B 77-73 = C 67-63 = D
92-90 = A- 82-80 = B- 72-70 = C- 62-60 = D-
Additional Help
Test and quiz retakes are available at the teacher’s discretion. Students will be notified in class and on my iBlog for retake dates. Students with missing work from that unit cannot retake a test. Students must first meet with Mrs. Dailing for a tutoring session before retaking a test. Sessions can be before school, during lunch, or after school and needs to be scheduled with Mrs. Dailing beforehand. Additionally, parents must sign the original test before the retake date. If a test was taken electronically, parent signature must be in planner indicating acknowledgment of original grade.
Homework
Exposure to reading (especially through different media) is important in developing vocabulary for fluency and comprehension. All 6th grade students are required to read a total of 100 minutes per week. Students will be held accountable for their chosen reading through One-Pagers and various formative C.E.R. (claim, evidence, reasoning) responses throughout the year. Students are required to turn in a total of two One-Pagers on their chosen novels each marking period. This means each student is reading a minimum of 8 novels during their 6th grade year. More information on One-Pagers will be given at a later date. Additionally, any work not completed in class (Newsela Article of the Week, MobyMax, ReadTheory, in-class assignments, projects, etc.) will need to be completed at home and turned in by the assignments due date.
Students should be reading a “Good Fit” book within their Lexile range (not too hard, not too easy). Please help your child choose appropriate books throughout the year. We will be visiting the school library bi-weekly and I have a classroom library they may borrow from. Outside books (from local library or store) are welcome as well.
Attendance
In order for your child to be as successful as they possibly can be, I encourage them to be present (both physically and mentally) every day to prevent falling behind. Each day in Language Arts class builds on the day prior so daily attendance and a healthy breakfast are essential. If a student misses a day due to illness (or other excused reason) they need to check the blog for what they missed and see me immediately. Some work can be made up during class, other work will be sent home. Late/missing work will not be accepted the last week of the card-marking.

Remind101 (Optional)
This is a free and safe messaging service I will be using in addition to my iBlog. Remind 101 is a texting service (or you can download the app) where I can send reminders straight to your phone without you having to open up your email. This is just one more way we can be consistent with due dates or other reminders. Both parents and students can sign up for this free and safe service by simply following the directions below. This is entirely optional for both parents and students. Expect to get at least one message from me through this service per week.
Computer Setup
- Go to your browser and com/join/dailing19 in the address bar
- Follow the instructions to sign up for my Remind.
Text Message Setup
- Text the message @dailing19 to the number 81010.
- If you’re having trouble with 81010, try texting @dailing19 to (313) 437-4305.
If you have limited texting there is an app you can download instead. If neither of these options are appropriate for you, please check my blog daily and information will always be posted there as well!
Blogs
The blogs will keep you informed of class activities, assignments, and resources. They are updated often so make sure you subscribe to them! https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/dailing/
Teacher Meetings
Email is the fastest way to get ahold of your teachers! Families who have a concern must email teachers to set up a parent meeting. Meetings with parents will be scheduled by appointment only. Any teacher can organize a meeting after being contacted by the family. Please allow 24-48 hours for a response!
