Today after SSR time, we studied and took notes on the structures of poems. We then practiced identifying rhyme scheme in various poems as a class and with a partner.

At the end, we were given a planning page template for essay writing called an IBC and a sample proficient essay to glue into our writing ISN as a guide. We began discussing how to use this plan. This discussion will continue tomorrow.

We did this independently then compared our thinking to a partner’s and Mrs. Dailing’s. Any time left was for IXL and updating our My Learning Plans.

Today we finished peer editing our papers. Final copies are due no later than January 31st. If you are typing, it must be 12 point, professional font. You are responsible for printing this out – I do not accept by email. You may hand write in your neatest handwriting as an alternative.

We were assigned a figurative language project that is also due January 31st. Students will get time in class this week to work on both this and their narrative final copies.

MobyMax and IXL – Interjection practice is due no later than Friday, January 24th!

Figurative Language Test on Thursday! Study your notes in your ISN (with all the examples!!) and the bellwork practice, as well as Party in Room 302. I gave extra credit related to figurative language today as well – that is due no later than Thursday.

Today we discussed “The Jacket” and reviewed the figurative language we found and analyzed. We went over the answers to “Party in Room 302” and were given an extra credit opportunity with similar stories. These are due by Thursday. We then reviewed the answers to the Grammar quiz from yesterday.

Grammar quiz FYI- While I understand some may feel disappointed by their score, I assured you in class this quiz grade will notaffect your grade tremendously. That being said, many of the test questions came from examples in your ISN (from both your notes and/or practice pages). I do not give retakes for quizzes and students had 3 chances to get each question correct. You will see on Student/Parent Connect that the quiz was weighted half it’s points which means that it’s worth 12.5 points in the grade book, not 25. One-Pagers have not been added to the grade book for block 2 or 3 and I am collecting Metacognition logs tomorrow which can both positively impact your grade as well. We will go over the quiz answers tomorrow.
