Wed./Thurs. Synchronous Time

Today we reviewed our upcoming due dates. Students were encouraged to write the due dates down. They are also posted in the Asynchronous Work section of my blog.

We reviewed how to check how many quizzes we have on ReadTheory as well.

We then signed up for Newsela and practiced how to follow the directions. We previewed the article and found words we don’t know. We used our vocabulary strategies to figure out what we thought the word meant. We then read the article and made a total of 10 annotations with our thoughts about what we are reading. This was due at the end of class or it was homework.

There are still 12 students that have not signed up for ReadTheory correctly because they were absent or it wasn’t working for them. I sent out a Zoom link for a ReadTheory help session – you NEED to join this session if you don’t have a ReadTheory account. We will have another one on Tuesday @12:30pm – check your email for the link.

We also to the 6th grade Language Arts Pre-test so I know where to begin with my teaching. If you did not complete this during class – you were told to submit it anyways – during your asynchronous time this week, please go back and fix the ones you left blank. Today 6th graders were scheduled to pick up their materials at Bryant. It was nice to meet some of you! For today’s assignment, please visit my Schoology class and answer the “Getting to know your classmates” discussion question!

Reminder: As 6th graders, you are on a block schedule. When looking at your schedule, you will notice you have the same teacher for “Period 1 & 2” as well as “Period 3 & 4”.

  • Period 1/2 = Block 1
  • Period 3/4 = Block 2
  • Period 5 = Block 3
  • Period 6 = Extended Core class

We will follow the half day schedule TOMORROW and THURSDAY of this week. You will follow the LEFT side for 6th grade block scheduling!

This week’s schedule is as follows:

  • Tuesday – 6th grade materials pick up from 8:30 am-11:30 am. Your teachers will be at the school helping pass out any materials you will need. We will NOT be meeting via Zoom on this day. Visit my Schoology class and answer the discussion question I posted. Please do this by 8:00 pm tonight so I can use this for attendance.
  • Wednesday – First Zoom meeting day! Follow the half day schedule to meet your teachers and peers for the first time! You will find the link to your Zoom session on my Schoology.
  • Thursday – Zoom meeting day #2! We will continue getting to know one another and learn how to use the online platforms. You will find the link to your Zoom session on my Schoology.
