Today we did some pronoun practice as bellwork. We then reviewed identifying verse, stanza, refrains, and rhyme scheme with the poem “Message from a Caterpillar”. We reviewed theme and discussed theme with an animated short as well as “Message from a Caterpillar”. As a class, we collaboratively created a theme constructed response which will help us with tomorrow’s activity.
Today after SSR time, we studied and took notes on the structures of poems. We then practiced identifying rhyme scheme in various poems as a class and with a partner.
At the end, we were given a planning page template for essay writing called an IBC and a sample proficient essay to glue into our writing ISN as a guide. We began discussing how to use this plan. This discussion will continue tomorrow.
Today after going to the library we finished our pronountype notes. We then completed our types of poems notes in our ISN. We did a prompt breakdown to understand what it was asking us to do. We did this independently then compared our thinking to a partner’s and Mrs. Dailing’s. Any time left was for IXL and updating our My Learning Plans.
Bellwork: SSR (sustained silent reading) & metacognition log
Reading: We started our poetry unit today. We took notes on 4 types of poems and will finish the remaining 4 tomorrow.
Writing: Today we broke down another writing prompt to better understand what it was asking us to do. We then had time to type up our academic goals on My Learning Plan.
Today after our silent reading time we read and made connections with our story “The Good Deed”. If you were absent you can read it here: https://my.hrw.com/la_2010/na_lit/student/ebook_gr6/osp/data/u1_good_deed_se.pdf
We also worked on breaking down a prompt to better understand what it is asking us to write about. We will continue this learning next week.
Have a great weekend!
Today after our silent reading time we did a vocabulary investigation for our new story “The Good Deed” by Marion Dane Bauer. We worked to investigate a chosen unknown or important vocabulary word and presented our words to the class.
We were also given a due date for the IXL Pronoun practice that was announced in class last week. This is due next Friday, February 14th. You need to earn 100 points for full credit.
For the next few days, we are working on the 6th grade Mid-Year Writing Assessment so I can see where students’ needs lie in terms of essay writing. This is a cold-write where students follow the directions and write based on a prompt independently. We should be done with this by the end of class tomorrow.
