Happy Tuesday! Since our theme for the month is about how we can protect our earth, why not use some recycled items to work on math? For this lesson you will need is:
- An Egg Carton (12 or 18 will work!)
- Index Cards or Paper
- Markers
- Scissors
I took the index cards and cut them into small squares and wrote numbers 1-18 on them. There are many activities you can do with this simple math manipulative.
- Activity #1: Put the small numbered squares on the ground/table and have your child place them in numerical order.
- Activity #2: Place a few numbers in the egg carton at random and have your child figure out how to complete the number sequence.
- Activity #3: Have your child work on counting backwards.
- Activity #4: Addition game. Take an index card and with two difference colored markers draw 5 circles with each color, cut into small squares. On another index card write additions problems up to 5. Have your child solve the addition problem using the colored dots as a helpful manipulative.
