The Very Hungry Caterpillar with Communication Board

Happy Thursday!

For today’s activity we are going to watch (if you have the book, even better!) The Very Hungry Caterpillar and use the communication board below to answer WH (Who and What) and Yes or No questions about the story.

We use a communication board in the classroom to express wants and needs, but you can all use them as part of a communication system, such as setting up a schedule for the day, for social stories, and to support in Language Arts.

How to use this particular communication board:

  • After every page, ask your child a WH question(s). Have your child point to the “I” and “see” and ask “What did the caterpillar eat on Monday?”
  • Point to different answers on the board and have your child say or point to the “yes” or “no” option.
  • Ask your child yes/no questions by pointing to the apple and asking, “is the apple green?” and having them say “yes” or “no”.
  • Make sure you have your child REPEAT the words/sentences, not just point to the pictures!!

If you have any questions or need more ideas, please feel free to email me!
