Who knew you could take two of the most disliked activities (at least for me) and turn them into a math game? Math is truly all around us, even in the laundry!
For today’s lesson, have your child sort the laundry of you. I have a few examples below on how you can do this. First example is sorting laundry into certain colors such as blue, green, yellow, white, or black. Another way you can do this is by sorting the clothes into lights and darks. This helps connect what we do in the classroom as independent filler time (an activity that occupies their time while I am working 1:1 with other students) to the real world.
Then, you can have your child count how many shirts are in each pile.
Lastly, if your child is working on addition, you can pull out your trusty index cards or even work from the piles to make addition problems.
- 5 Red shirts + 2 Blue shirts =
- 1 White shirt + 3 Yellow Shirts =
