June 1st!

Hello everyone!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend. The weather was great – I hope you were able to get outside to help out your parents with yard work or just enjoy the out of doors for a change.

You will have your last assignment in AES (https://learn.aeseducation.com) for the school year. It follows up on the Medical Record module with a lesson on the Health Information Technology. It’s a short unit and you will be learning more about the electronic medical record and HIPAA. Your test for this unit will be on Monday, June 8th at 12:00 pm sharp. Please be on time as I will be closing the test at 12:30 pm. Have all of your electronic worksheets completed with correct answers before you take the test.

The last week of school is for catch up. For any of you that would like to turn in late work – Please let me know that you have completed work by sending me a REMIND or an email and be specific about what you would like to to look at.

We will have a short Big Blue Button on Tuesday at 10:00 am for 2nd and 3rd and 11:00 am for 5th and 6th. See you there! Remember that the BBB is mandatory. You get 5 summative points for attending.

As always, I’m available through REMIND, email (craigv@dearbornschools.org), google classroom and of course, my blog. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need ANYTHING. I am here to help!

Supplies / Books / Folder Pick up and Drop off tomorrow!

Hello everyone!

Tomorrow from 10:00 to 1:00 pm I  will be at school gathering your folders so that you can pick them up.  Many of you have certificates in those folders that you will want  to save.    Also, this is the opportunity for you to drop off books or supplies that you have borrowed from me.   Please plan on stopping by school tomorrow during the distribution time of 12- to 1 pm.  Please come to door #1 to pickup or drop off anything.  Have a card or piece of paper that you can show through the car window with your name on it.   Students must be accompanied by a parent or adult if you are under 18.

Pharm Tech students: Many of you have the PassAssured binders!  I will need those back!  Thanks!

Happy Eid and Happy Memorial Day!

Tuesday, May 26, 2020

Hello all!

I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend celebrating both Eid and Memorial Day!  I hope you were able to social distance and have a great time with loved ones.

This week we are back to AES (https://learn.aeseducation.com). I am happy that they provide a module on a chapter that we did not get to in the classroom – Medical Records.   The good news is that it’s much more interesting in AES than in your book. You all know the routine, go to the website and log in – the module is there for you.   I hope you learn a lot.

The test will be at noon (that’s 12:00 pm  for those of you that don’t know) on Monday, June 1st.  As always, be there on time.  I will be giving all of you 1/2 hour to complete the test and then will be closing it down.  So please be on time.

Tuesday, today, May 26th,   is our Big Blue Button meeting at 10:00 for 2nd and 3rd hours and 11:00 for 5th and 6th hours. Remember when you enter the meeting, the site will ask you “How would you like to joint the audio?” You are going to click on “microphone” NOT “Listen only.” This will allow you to contribute to the meeting by communicating with me. If you can’t talk with me, you are not getting credit for attending. I would also like to see your beautiful faces at BBB so that I can verify that you are attending.  Remember that your classmates can’t see you, so no worries.  Please bring your questions and concerns to the BBB on Tuesday and REMEMBER, this is mandatory – that means you MUST be there.

For those of you that are behind, the card marking is ending shortly.  It will behoove you to get the work in even though it is late. Several of you did not even do the EdPuzzle assignment.  This will affect your grade.  Please get it done and send me a REMIND that you did it so I can enter your grades.

As always, I’m available through REMIND, email (craigv@dearbornschools.org), google classroom and of course, my blog. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need ANYTHING. I am here to help!

Can’t wait to see all of you later today!

Weekly update

Hello Everyone,

I hope all of you had a good weekend.

It’s time to reinforce information from the Specimen Collection modules.  We are going to try a new platform called EdPuzzles to emphasize all of the information you learned last week. Please be patient if there are hiccups as this is my first time with this site and there may be a couple bumps in the road.  Don’t hesitate to let me know what problems may arise.   There are specific instructions in google classroom and hopefully this will be both fun and educational!   This week you will be watching videos and answering the questions.  Try to do the best you can the first time you watch the video.  I hope it helps you to understand how to collect specimens.

I am working on Quizlet Live for our Tuesday Big Blue Button.  Look for a quizlet code in REMIND to join the Live before actually signing into BBB.   I think it might be fun if we can pull this off!  Remember, our Tuesday BBB sessions are mandatory.  That means you must attend them.  Also, make sure you sign in with “microphone” so that you can communicate with everyone.  You will not be getting credit for joining if I can’t talk to you.  My advice is to figure it out ahead of time so you aren’t having to leave the session and come back in.  Hey, if I can figure it out, you can!

Again, the Thursday BBB will be on a “need be” basis. I am very happy to meet with anyone (or all) of you on Thursday if you need help with your work, or you just want to talk. Please don’t hesitate to send me a REMIND if you want to meet at 10:00 am (2nd and 3rd hours) or 11:00 am (5th and 6th hours) to make sure I open up the BBB room on iLearn.

On Wednesday you will have an assignment posted to google classroom that will be due on Thursday.  Please make sure that you get to it right away so that you don’t fall behind.  We don’t have school on May 22 and May 25th for the Memorial Day weekend – such as it is.  I don’t plan on giving you work for the weekend so please try to stay on task with everything or caught up if you need to.

We have a number of seniors in the class  – so it is with some sadness that I write this last blog to all of you.  I regret that I have not been able to see you in my classroom every day, and I also regret not being able to spend time in labs and group activities.  I am so sorry that we couldn’t make that happen.  Mostly, I regret that I will not be able to say goodbye properly as I have grown fond of all of you.  Each of you will be moving on to share your gifts with the world – it may be delayed but you will be able to do that eventually.  Heck, maybe one of you will figure out this stupid virus so we can get back out there!  I do hope with all my heart that each and every one of you keeps me updated on your endeavors and your future successes!  I will miss all of you very much.  I have faith in you and I am proud of who you have become.

As always, I’m available through REMIND, email (craigv@dearbornschools.org), google classroom and of course, my blog. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need ANYTHING. I am here to help!

Week of May 10th

Hello everyone,

I hope you all treated your mom well for mother’s day.  I had a socially distant visit from my daughter that I will remember for the rest of my life – memories are being made because of this dog gone virus, aren’t they?

Tuesday, May12th is our Big Blue Button meeting at 10:00 for 2nd and 3rd hours and 11:00 for 5th and 6th hours.  Remember when you enter the meeting,  the site will ask you “How would you like to joint the audio?”  You are going to click on “microphone” NOT “Listen only.”  This will allow you to contribute to the meeting by communicating with me.   If you can’t talk with me, you are not getting credit for attending.  Please bring your questions and concerns to the BBB on Tuesday and REMEMBER, this is mandatory – that means you MUST be there.
The Thursday BBB will be on a need be basis.

We are back to AES this week ( https://learn.aeseducation.com) studying Specimen Collection and Testing.  This is a natural progression from the last unit of phlebotomy.  Your unit test will be on Monday, May 18 at 12:00 pm.  When you complete the modules, have your electronic worksheets up side by side with the program so that you can answer the questions easily as the module plays out.  Look for an additional assignment later in the week to go along with this unit.
As always, I’m available through REMIND, email (craigv@dearbornschools.org), google classroom and of course, my blog. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need ANYTHING. I am here to help!

Week of May 4, 2020

I hope all of you had a good weekend and are ready to learn more about venipunctures this week.

Word has it that our awesome tech department at Dearborn Public Schools has ramped up Big Blue Button (BBB) and it should be glitch free for us this week. Remember, this is mandatory – So just go to our iLearn Medical Assisting site and you will see BBB as the first item there. On Tuesday, May 5, 2020, I’ll meet 2nd and 3rd hour on BBB at 10:00 am and 5th and 6th hours at 11:00 am . We have a lot to talk about.

The Thursday BBB will be on a need be basis. I am very happy to meet with anyone (or all) of you on Thursday if you need help with your work, or you just want to talk. Please don’t hesitate to send me a REMIND and I will make time to meet up with you. I will use the same times as Tuesdays BBB sessions. So if you are in my 2nd and 3rd hours plan to meet with me at 10:00 am. If you are in 5th or 6th plan on 11:00 am. Remember, this one is not mandatory.

As always, I am available through REMIND, email (craigv@dearbornschools.org), google classroom and of course, my blog. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you ANYTHING. I am here to help!

Check out the assignments for the week. One is due on Tuesday at midnight and the other on Thursday at midnight. No weekend homework this time!

Can’t wait to see you on Tuesday!

4-26-2020

Hello Everyone!

I hope all of you had a good weekend and are acting responsibly during this time.  That means staying home (no, you shouldn’t be breaking your fast at another house but your own).  It sounds innocent enough but remember, you can’t see this virus.  It could be lurking anywhere and you could bring the virus home to your family.  It is up to each and every one of us to follow the guidelines.  We will deal with repercussions afterwards if we don’t.

For those of you that are behind, please try to catch up and get your work in.  Even though it is really late, it will benefit you in the end.

I am sure by now that all of you have heard about the horrific problems with google meet last week. The students involved are under criminal investigation by the Dearborn Police Department.  This is a reminder to all of you that what you do online is being monitored and can be traced.  Let’s act responsibly.

Because of the issues, we are switching to a new platform.  There, once again, will be a learning curve for all of us so be patient please.  This platform is in iLearn and it is called Big Blue Button. It gives the teacher more control than google meet.   It will be the first link in your iLearn course called Medical Assisting Virtual Classroom – Big Blue Button (BBB),   MA 2 and 3 meet at 10:00 am on Tuesdays.  MA 5 and 6 meet at 11:00 am on Tuesdays. IMPORTANT: You MUST attend the session for your hour.  Remember this is mandatory meaning you MUST ATTEND.  I look forward to seeing all of you.

Not mandatory are BBB sessions on Thursdays at the same time.  These Thursday sessions are if you have specific questions, or your just want to meet up and discuss coursework or how you are spending your time!

We are going back to AES (https://learn.aeseducation.com ) this week to learn about phlebotomy. You will take your test as a group on Monday, May 4th at 10:00 am.  At that time you should have all of your quizzes completed AND your worksheets too!  A word about the worksheets – open them up along side your module video.  Then complete the worksheet as you are going through the module.  It’s much easier that way.  Please don’t hesitate to send questions or comments my way.  I am here ready to help.  Have a good week.
