Med Assist only & VERY IMPORTANT INFO for wellness fair volunteers!

Happy weekend!

I wanted to remind you to study for the next abbreviation test that will happen on Monday.  Study page 42 column 1.  You can find the list on iLearn in chapter one, The Medical Record in the medical record folder.  Study them good enough so that you know you will get an A!

Several of you indicated that you would like to volunteer for the Health Fair on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  Please find attached a permission slip.  BRING IT IN ON MONDAY!  Please note that you will need to be picked up PROMPTLY at 7:00 pm from the DFT office -15250 Mercantile Drive, Dearborn.  Please do not volunteer if you do not plan on staying the entire time.  If you want to volunteer for part of a shift, find someone who will fill in for you for the other part of the time.  wellness-fair-permission-slip  Remember, this counts as participation for cord consideration.

Please read the common blog for all of my classes for important HOSA information and information on the self defense classes.

WOOOO HOOOO! The weekend is here!

Can you tell that I’m excited?

For all of my classes:

Please bring in your HOSA permission slips and money on Monday.  Please research what you may want to do for your competition so that we can start preparing.  January 28th will be here before you know it.

I am in the process of compiling a list for the MedTalks field trip and you will not be going if you are not a HOSA member. I can only take a certain number of students so it’s first come first serve with that field trip!

For all of you that requested HOSA officer applications…please turn them in ASAP!

We have set a date for the Self Defense class.  On October 24th at 3:15 pm, a girls only self defense class will be given in my classroom.  It will be 3 hours long and cost $10.00.  (You will need someone to pick you up from MBCC at 6:15 pm)  Please bring your money on Monday so that we can sign you up!  This is a valuable opportunity for all of you, please don’t miss out.  Besides, it’s a blast!

It’s here! It’s here! The weekend, that is!

Hello Medical Assistant students!

Have a great weekend.  Please catch up on your sleep – I know that’s what I’m going to do.

A couple of reminders:

Talk with your parents about HOSA!  Explain the importance of joining and the benefits of leadership skills it will teach you!  Bring your permission slips and money in on Monday.

The second abbreviation test is on Monday.  Study the second column on page 41.  I’ll meet you upstairs in the iLearn lab on Monday.

Your test for chapter 6 will be on Wednesday, no ifs, ands, or buts.  Start studying this weekend.  There is a lot of content and you need to digest it a little at a time.

Have a great weekend!  Extra credit:  Please do something nice for someone (secretly) and email me your results.  Have fun!

Happy Weekend!

Oh my goodness!  I’m so tired.  I’m so glad the weekend is here so I can sleep in.  I’m thinking that’s exactly what all of you are going to do too!  At least I hope so.  Sleep is VERY important in the teen years.

Anyway, I wanted you to have the right answers to the worksheets I gave you so here they are.  Please check the worksheets (especially the ones that we haven’t gone over yet) so that you can prepare for the test that will be on Wednesday!

Also, don’t forget to study for the Top 200 drugs test.  Please be aware that you will need to know the generic name for  Ativan, Amoxil and Anaprox.  Good luck!

Please have a conversation with your parents regarding HOSA.  Tell them the benefits you will receive by joining and explore the website with them at mihosa.org.  Bring your permission slip and money on Monday.

Have a great weekend.  Extra credit:  Please (secretly) do something nice for someone and email me to let me know what you did.

This is important stuff!

Hello All!

I certainly enjoyed meeting and getting to know you this week.  I can honestly say that I have never been so excited to teach medical assisting.  Having a room full of bright 2nd year students is very motivating for me and I am really looking forward to being your teacher.

OK…enough of that.  Here’s the important information:

  1.  There is an open house on Wednesday, September 14 from 6 to 7:30 pm.  We will need students here (THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO BE “ACTIVE”) to show parents around, give tours etc…  If you are willing to help us out, please email me.  Thank you in advanced.
  2. You need an enrollment key to get into my iLearn class.  The enrollment key is flower.
  3. Once you are enrolled in my Craig Clinical Medical Assisting class, you can scroll down to the section that is called Career Exploration.  The first item there is the medical assistant interview rubric.  (I have attached it here, as well, for your convenience).  Remember to ask the mandatory question:  DOES YOUR FACILITY ACCEPT EXTERNSHIPS? and report this in your paragraph. Right underneath the rubric is the area where you are to upload your paragraph.  REMEMBER:  the interview is of a MEDICAL ASSISTANT not any other health occupation.    This assignment is due on Friday, September 16th.  Don’t wait till the last minute.  It may take some time to get hold of a busy MA.  medical_assistant_interview_rubric
  4. For those of you that want to get started with memorizing your abbreviations – look in iLearn under Chapter One – The Medical Record.  I put the folder as the first item for you to find.  Please just concentrate on the first abbreviation document there.  Remember, that test will be on Monday, September 19th.
  5. Last but not least, I’d like to wish everyone of you that celebrates  – HAPPY EID!  And for those of you who don’t – Enjoy your day off.  I know I will!
September 8

Our first full day at MBCC

I have to say that I REALLY enjoyed getting to know all of you better.  I can’t wait to get started.

Many of you asked about supplies.  I think it is safe to say that you will need a binder with loose leaf paper OR a spiral notebook and folders to keep completed work in order.  Pens and pencils, of course will be used.

Have a great evening!
