December 11

Weeks of December 10th and 17th

WOW!  It’s sure hard to believe that we are just 2 weeks away from a 16-day break and that we’re already 1/2 way through the 2nd marking period for this school year!

So, here’s what’s up for the next few weeks:

  • District Progress Reports will probably be mailed by the end of this week.
  • All students have a Progress Report that I printed and asked they share with you this week.  I’ve also asked that a parent either send a quick note or email confirming they’ve seen this report.
  • We’re going to finish Lesson 7 this week, and then have a quiz on Lessons 6 and 7; both these lessons relate to division of (or by) fractions by fractions, whole numbers, and mixed numbers that need to be converted into improper fractions in order to use in a fraction/division problem.
  • Next week, will will start our review of long division and practice this skill right up until break.

I wish all of you and your family a wonderful, relaxing break, a very Merry Christmas or Happy Holiday – whichever is fitting, and a Happy New Year as you ring in 2019.

November 29

Week of November 26th and December 3rd

Welcome back after what was, hopefully, a relaxing holiday.

Here’s our news for the week in Math class.

We are starting to work in our next Unit, Number Systems.  This unit includes revisiting past skills and introducing new ones involving:

  • division of fractions (which reviews multiplication of fractions)
  • division of mixed numbers and fractions (reviews converting mixed to improper and vice-versa)
  • addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of decimals
  • multi-digit long division
  • an introduction to integers and absolute value
  • plotting and finding distances on the coordinate plane
  • finding common factors and multiples

– We will have a quiz on December 6th on Lessons 6-8.

– Please remember to check Parent Connect weekly (Tuesday is the best day) and have your child share their planners with you from time to time.

– By now, all parents should have read and confirmed seeing the letter regarding Khan Academy posted on Google Classroom and shared with you by students.  That letter is also here on the blog in my “pages”.

– Finally, here’s a link to a survey for parents put out by the “Dearborn Shines” Project which Mrs. Jebril asked with share with parents.  We’d appreciate it if you took a moment to take the survey and thanks in advance for doing so.  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/dshines

Have a great few weeks, everyone!
