Read SAT SLOT article on Akbar with the purpose of identifying new vocabulary. Circle words you do not know & we will define them (pages 15-16).
Akbar Vocabulary:
stature: a person’s natural height
countenance: a person’s face or facial features
horsemanship: the art/practice of riding on horseback
robust: strong and healthy; vigorous
affability: friendly, good-natured, or easy to talk to
heterodox: against accepted beliefs of a particular religion
erudite: having or showing great knowledge/learning
shrewdly: showing sharp powers of judgment; astute
2.) Read SAT SLOT article together to identify author’s claim & purpose.
3.) Work on four square boxes & annotations of the article. I will check for completion Tues!
Tips for the Four Square:
Box 1 (top left): Monserrate describes positive & negative attributes about Akbar; Primary source
Box 2 (top right): The author’s purpose is to inform the audience about the positives & negatives of Akbar. The author’s (Monserrate) bias is that he is Catholic while Akbar is Muslim with Indian Hindu subjects.
Box 3 (bottom left): Give two examples each of Akbar’s positive & negative attributes that Monserrate mentions in the article.
Box 4 (bottom right): Fill in yourself! What’s the historical context? How does it relate to the text?
