1.) Bell Work:

Read p. 9 in your SAT SLOT packet.

Circle any words you do not know to create a vocabulary list. Define the words in your SAT SLOT packet.

  • occupation: being occupied by military force; a job
  • exploitation: to take advantage of someone/something
  • hewing: to make or shape by cutting
  • abode: home
  • Semitic: people who speak Hebrew, Arabic, Aramaic
  • polity: politics

  • monotonous: dull, tedious, and repetitious
  • nascent: just coming into existence and beginning to display signs of future potential

2.) Read the SAT SLOT packet passage together.

3.) Questions & Four Square on p. 10 in SAT SLOT packet.

  • Underline the claim of the excerpt. Describe what the excerpt is about. Write these in Box 1 (top left).
  • In Box 3 (bottom left) write details to support the claim. Cite evidence & reasoning.
  • According to the author what is the greatest threat to Africa? Answer below and then underline your evidence to support it.
  • What was the author’s purpose? Write in Box 2 (top right) The author’s purpose was to persuade/inform the audience…
  • Complete Box 4 (bottom right).
