Happy Memorial Day and welcome to Computer Science.
You are welcome to try the assessment 2 at the end of Lesson 10. I think it is all unlocked and ready to go.
This week’s assignment is Unit 5: Lesson 11. Programming with data structures.
Seniors are welcome to keep doing the work but it is not required.
Thanks!
Stay healthy and Stay Breezy.

Good morning and welcome to Computer Science.
I’ve opened up Unit 5: Lesson 10 for the last assignment for seniors. Seniors, please complete by Thursday. All others complete by Friday at 10 a.m.
Our Monday get together for first hour needs to be changed. I am planning to be at DHS for seniors. Hope to see you there class of 2020.
The assignment this week is about “Color Sleuth”. I hope you enjoy.
k7kc7s is the iLearn code for getting into our Big Blue Button video conferences. These are required check ins.
Tuesday of this week 6th hour will meet at 2:20 p.m.
Wednesday of this week 1st hour will meet at 1:00 p.m.
Thursday at 2:20 pm will be the makeup check in.
The Big Blue Button works on a variety of devices and formats. Please enable your microphone. Enabling the camera is optional but it would be nice to see you.
Thanks and stay breezy!

Good morning (or afternoon) and welcome to computer science. I hope you are all doing well, or as well as possible under trying circumstances.
This week we will try to meet up using iLearn’s Big Blue Button. I don’t know how it all works just yet, but we shall give it a go.
First hour meets Monday at 1:00 p.m.
Sixth hour meets Tuesday at 2:20 p.m.
Please show up for your hour only. Do not share the code or invite anybody else.
The enrollment code for the iLearn for DHS computer science is: k7kc7s. This is for both hours, but please only click on the Big Blue Button session for your hour. Go to the iLearn website for this course (https://moodle.dearbornschools.org/course/view.php?id=4368)
then join the video chat
The iLearn for this course is in its infancy. Only the Big Blue Button has been assigned to it. So, don’t think you’re missing a bunch of info. It’s all about code.org in this class.
Speaking of code.org...this week’s assignment is Unit 5: Lesson 9 If-Else-If and Conditional Logic. It is due Friday by 10 a.m. If you haven’t done lessons 5-8 you need to catch up to get a good grade. Many of you are behind. This will be unfortunate when June rolls around and you have a bunch of questions. So, please try to keep up every week. It should take about two hours per week for the average student to complete the work. Some of you will finish much more quickly, some may take longer. That’s okay. Just keep plugging along.
The Remind code is tbreezycsp.
I will send this information in e-mail and post a link to this in Remind.
Thank you and stay breezy.

Welcome to Computer Science!
Please enroll in the iLearn course in order to be in the video conference next week. Not this week. The code is: k7kc7s
Do not share this code with outsiders. People joining our video conference who are not authorized can be pursued by local police. Let’s be careful out there!
MANY of you did week 2 work nicely and on time. Unit 5 Lesson 6 was a reasonable amount for most folks. If you have not completed Lessons 5 or 6 I advise you to catch up in order to get a good grade or at least credit.
To check in this week, send me a note in Remind saying, “I enrolled in the iLearn”.
I’ve opened up Unit 5: Lessons 7 and 8. IF statements. Please finish both lessons by 10 a.m. Friday morning. I will check your results in code.org.
I know this is a difficult time for many, the virus has hit DHS friends and family and even though your education is important, staying safe, healthy and alive are more important. Keep this in mind (as do I).
Thank you.

Greetings and Welcome to Computer Science.
Unfortunately, even though we had no problems with Google Hangout, the District has decided that there were too many nefarious people causing problems. So, we will be transitioning to only Remind and e-mails. Sorry. There is no iLearn for this course, so the Big Blue Button is not an option. Ratings were making a nice rebound, too. Sigh.
This week, you should have already finished the App maker where you made a “Clicker Game”. Some of you did amazing. Some of you did good. Some of you need a little more work. Some of you have apparently gone into protective custody hiding out in Wyoming?
Look for my comments on your Unit 5, Lesson 5 Clicker Game (L21).
This week you should continue to sally forth and do more good work in code.org. I’ve opened up Lessons 6 and 7 in Unit 5 recently. Your assignment is to finish Lesson 6 this week.
When you see the Remind text, please reply with “I got the assignment” as your check-in for this week.
Stay healthy and stay breezy.

Good morning and Welcome to Computer Science!
As you’ve heard, we the teachers are now required to send you the week’s assignments by noon on Sundays and expect to have it turned in by you on Fridays at 10 a.m. Some of you have been keeping up with the work during this crisis, while others I’ve not heard from at all. So, to get us all going on the same page, this week is just review/catchup.
I’d like you to finish everything up to Unit 5: Lesson 5. Your app should work flawlessly by Friday at 10 a.m.
Also, we will be having a Google Hangout so I get to see your faces for a required weekly check-in. Anybody who does not check-in will be getting a phone call from the SRT people.
Basic etiquette (the norms) for a hangout:
1. Be on time.
2. Find a quiet place free from distraction.
3. Maintain respect in speaking, writing and appearance.
4. Stay on mute unless you have something relevant to contribute
.5. Video needs to remain ON to promote focus. Eye contact should be maintained.
6. Refrain from chewing gum, eating and drinking in front of the camera.
The Google Hangout for 1st hour is Monday from 1:00-1:40 p.m. Look for the “Nickname” in Remind as we near the time.
The Google Hangout for 6th hour is Tuesday from 2:20 – 3:00 p.m. Look for the Nickname in Remind as we near the time.
As Remind is set up by subject and not individual hour, you may be getting a code for the other class. Please join only your own class.
The Remind Code is @tbreezycsp.
Check your Remind. Check the iBlog. Or Check your e-mail. They should all contain all this information.
I’m looking forward to seeing all of you!
I hope this message finds you healthy.

Good morning and welcome to computer science.
I’ve opened up Unit 5: Lessons 6 and 7. You should finish them by next Friday. If you haven’t done Lessons 1-5, it is time to catch up.
We will start having Google Hangout Meetings starting next week. Be patient with me the first couple of times. It’s all new to me.
Thanks!
T. Brown
Good morning and welcome to Computer Science!
Since you’ve finished Unit 5 Lesson 5, the next part of Code.org is the Assessment. You have until midnight to complete Unit 5, Assessment 1.
Thanks!
Stay safe and stay Breezy!

Good morning and welcome to Computer Science. I hope you had a healthy Spring Break. We are all doing fine in the Brown household. Staying home except for essential stuff.
My daughter and I saw a graphic that said folks in the Great Lakes area have been better about staying at home than any other area of the country. They used cell phone tracking to see how many miles people travelled in a day, on average.
Here is a link to an interesting article:
https://www.theverge.com/2020/4/3/21206318/google-location-data-mobility-reports-covid-19-privacy
Your assignment today, how many miles have each of you travelled in the last month? Include family members. It needn’t be perfect, but if you normally go to school and back five times a week and now you walk 10 miles a week, it might be about equal. But, if parents commute and are in lockdown, their travel miles may have decreased dramatically.
I will try to compile a “before” and “after” total to help with overall comparisons. Perhaps you’ve seen pictures of the Himalayas or Los Angeles now that the air is clearer. Science and particularly big data science will be playing a role in our knowledge of our neighborhood and our planet.
Thank you,
Stay healthy and Stay Breezy!
