Hey Students!

Next week, we are holding Parent Conferences in the cafeteria on Wednesday, 3/16/16, from 3:30-6:15.

Also, next Wednesday, 3/16/16, is a Late Start day.

FREE eBooks!

Hey Students!

I hope you enjoyed some SSR time during our snow day this week! Good news! I just heard about an opportunity for you to receive free ebooks (electronic books) on your tablet or phone (normal data charges apply)! This is through a program called First Book Marketplace. Look for a notice soon with a password for you to download up to 10 free ebooks. After 56 days, if you haven’t finished reading any of the titles, you may renew them electronically. Of course, paper print books are still my personal favorite, and cold winter days and nights are perfect for curling up with a good book, so you can always borrow one from our classroom library! Read at least 30 minutes per day/night – just for fun!

Upcoming:

Monday – Unit 3, Chapter 2 test

Tuesday – Sentence Quiz 2

Writing Focus

Hey Students!

You had a fantastic start of a new semester! Everyone starts with an A, so all you have to do is KEEP it! 🙂 Remember to complete all bell work, class work, and homework. Review the class work each night and study for your tests. This semester we are focusing much more on writing using the 6+1 Traits for good writing skills. If you think writing is difficult, don’t worry! You can do it! Just remember: Writing is simply THINKING ON PAPER!

Please make wise choices to help yourself succeed, such as getting a good night’s sleep, eating a healthy breakfast, and planning to create a study time and place each day. Attendance is also important! If you are not in class, you are not learning the skills needed to prepare you for the next level. Let’s make 2016 a fantastic year of accomplishment!

Stay Focused

Hey Students!

I’m really proud of how much progress you have made this semester! You’ve worked hard and are ready for the break, BUT don’t relax just yet! We have just a few weeks until the end of the semester and final exams. Stay focused on your studies and keep up the routines that have brought you success thus far:  reviewing your notes and textbooks, reading, completing homework, and focusing in class and asking questions. The period from this week through the few weeks after break is a critical time to keep or bring up your GPA and to develop important language skills, so stay focused on your studies, work hard and finish strong!

Monday – Adverbs Quiz

Wednesday – U1, C5 Test

6+1 Organization & Test Prep

Hey Students,

I hope you had a relaxing break! Now as we enter the last week of the 2nd card marking, let’s work hard to learn as much as you and improve your English skills! Writing is very important, and we will continue the 6+1 Writing Trait of Organization. Review the rubric we deconstructed before the break. This week, you enjoy working in groups to organize ideas in a writing.

In our Visions book, we will continue learning about various cultures and traditions in chapter 4, and we will study suffixes, adjectives, and learn to distinguish between facts and opinions as we read about the Turkish culture.

Also, we are also continuing to prepare for the very important tests some of you will take in just a few months (others will take next year):  the SAT and the WIDA. You may even earn scholarship money for college, so do your best to prepare NOW for success!
