Parent Conferences

Hey Students!

It was wonderful to meet your parents/guardians and other family members at Parent Conferences! Their support is an indicator of your success! We had a great turnout, and I appreciate everyone who was able to join us!

This week we studied Folktales and their unique text structure. You will receive your test results back on Monday. If you need a retake (only D’s and E’s and only if you did all HW), you will retake it on Thur., 11/3.

We also studied various forms of verbs in our Grammar section. Please continue to review those lessons, as we will have a quiz on Subject and Verb Agreement next Wed., 11/2.

Keep up the great work!

End of 1st Grading Period

Hi Students,

This is the last week of the 1st card marking! We are off to a great start but still have much to learn!

In literature, we are studying the Personal Narrative and use of 1st person pronouns (I, me, my, us, we, etc.). Test Tuesday, 10/11.

Our grammar lessons will focus on 2 types of Verbs: Action and Linking. Quiz Thursday, 10/13.

In writing, we are continuing to develop the 6+1 trait of Ideas.

Remember to keep reading for fun at least 30 minutes per night!

GRAMMAR, 6+1, Circle Map

Hey Students!

Currently we are focusing on the grammar lessons involving NOUNS (common and PROPER) and there is a quiz on Wed., 10/5.

We are also studying the theme of Cultures and Traditions in our literature book, and there is a test on Ch. 1 on Tue., 10/11.

This week, you saw an overview of the 8 Thinking Maps, and we focused on the Circle Map to define what someone or something is.

We are also practicing our writing with the 6+1 Trait of Ideas. We are learning how to use fresh ideas with a clear topic sentence and detailed supporting sentences.

Please continue with SSR and read at least 30 minutes a day just for fun! Have a great weekend!

Poems and Goals

Hi Students!

Your Bio-Poems and self portraits were so creative and inspiring! This project really helped us learn about each other! Hopefully, you are feeling more comfortable and confident in our class, which will serve you well in our future lessons and projects. 🙂

Your English Goals are off to a good start. Make sure you write specific goals for improving reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Also, tell three actions steps you can take to achieve those goals. I’m sure you will work hard and be successful in reaching them!

Welcome to Fordson High School!

Hey Students!

It was wonderful to see all your smiling faces this past week! I hope you had a wonderful summer and a Happy Eid! We will spend the first couple of weeks getting to know each other’s personalities, learning styles, and strengths and weaknesses. We will also become familiar with school and classroom procedures.

Please make sure to have your contract signed by your parents and turn it in to me this week if you have not already done so. Also, your notebook should be set up by now. I will be checking them this week. Please let me know if you need more time to do this or help with anything! I look forward to fantastic year of learning for all of us!

SPRING BREAK!

Hi Students!

You’re about half-way through the semester! You’ve worked hard and can now take a break to refresh yourselves! When you return on April 4th, we’ll take a couple more weeks to prepare for the PSAT/SAT, which will be on April 12th-14th. Please use some time over the break to complete the practice tests on Khan Academy. Remember, you may earn scholarship money for college if you perform well! Also, keep up with your SSR! Enjoy a great book as you relax over the break!
