What’s Next?
Posted onGood afternoon! I hope that you are all staying healthy and safe. I’m sure that you have many questions about what will happen with school after Spring Break. First, I would like to tell you how sad I am that I will not be able to see each of your kids in person for the rest of the school year. Yesterday, during the Governor’s press conference, was the first time I’ve shed tears about any of this since all of this craziness started. I know that you you have been working hard at home, though, and I am so proud of you for that. I can’t imagine how it must be to have all of this thrown on you. Thank you very much for your support and for making your kids continue on in their educational journey even though they are not going to school everyday.
After Spring Break, we will continue to do school work virtually. The first grade team and I have created a Google Classroom where all of the assignments and links will be located. Some of the assignments will be turned in online through Google Classroom and some will need to be completed on paper or in their books. For those assignments not directly turned in through Google Classroom, we are just asking you to send a picture through ClassDojo of your child’s work. We are working on making sure all of the links are working and will send you the login information, as well as videos showing you what to do, next Thursday. I’d like for you to try to logon and make sure everything is working so that I can make any changes or fix things prior to Monday when school resumes.
You are all so amazing and I want you to know how much I appreciate all of you. I hope that you have a good break from all of this and stay healthy. Take care!!

Raz-Kids Running Record
Posted onGood morning!! In order to make sure that the students are on the appropriate reading level for Raz-Kids, I would like for each of them to complete a running record by the end of today, 3/27/20. I have assigned each student a passage which can be found under the Flight Check option on the main screen. The students will be recorded so that I can assess their fluency and accuracy. There will also be a retelling portion and a quiz so that I can assess their comprehension. Please remind them to do their best work! Make sure they click done when they have completed the running record so that it gets sent back to me. They will earn 300 stars for completing it! Please watch the video on ClassDojo for step by step directions on how to get to the running record. Thank you so much for your help!
Rewards for Working
Posted onI was talking with a parent who was having a difficult time keeping her child motivated to do school work. We talked about starting the day with 0 minutes of additional screen time. The children would have to earn minutes to play games or watch shows by working and not giving parents a hard time about it. This could be for anything such as chores, school work and behavior. Here is a link that I found which provides a template for rewards. Hope it is helpful! https://cdn.thisreadingmama.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/EarnScreenTime.pdf
