First Day Update

Hello Parents/ Guardians,

Due to technical difficulties, we will not be meeting tomorrow via zoom. I‘ve received a few emails in regards to parents asking if I’ll be teaching their child; please bear with me as I sort out all the details. I will be contacting you tomorrow by phone to introduce myself and answer all of your questions.

On Tuesday, I’ll share a zoom link and meet the students. For tomorrow, I’ll be assisting you as you log into your Schoology and Zoom accounts, so that we can ensure that you have access to the tools well be using. I appreciate your patience.

Best regards,

Ms. Charara

Update

As the new school year is approaching, there will be some changes to how we communicate student placement. This year, in order to help our community avoid large gatherings, class lists will not be posted. Instead, our classroom teachers will be e-mailing or calling the parents/guardians of students in their class. We will be having virtual orientation next week and classroom teachers will be sharing information about themselves, their class, and the focus for the upcoming school year via our classroom blogs.

Letter to Parents

River Oaks Parent or Guardian,
Welcome back to a new and exciting year at River Oaks Elementary School! My name is Ms. Charara and I’m a Reading Interventionist at River Oaks Elementary.
I am looking forward to another year of working together for the academic and social success of your student!
Please view the important information below on the methods we will use for  communication, instruction, and  a description of our resources.
COMMUNICATIONTo communicate with families, the district is now using the following platforms: Schoology will be used for announcements, assignments, and direct communication with parents and students. All virtual sessions will be held via Zoom. Teachers will be sharing links directly to Schoology before the sessions. In terms of questions, I will be communicating with parents through phone calls and email. You can reach me via email at chararn3@dearbornschools.org Office Hours: Monday-Friday 3:00-3:50 Please subscribe to my Blog for school and District wide updates https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/chararn3/

INSTRUCTIONSupport Staff will provide two days of virtual sessions via zoom and two days of face-to-face instruction; the face-to-face sessions will be Learning Labs that consist of 1-5 student(s) and will be held at River Oaks. The fifth day of instruction will be used as makeup sessions for students that miss sessions throughout the week. The first week of instruction will consist of parent communication, resource pickup, and an optional orientation. Schoology will be the main platform for where teachers and staff will be communicating and uploading student work. Please visit http://dearbornschools.schoology.com Weekly lessons and resources will be provided by the students’ teacher. As an interventionist, I will be working with students one-on-one or in small groups to address further instruction and support with reading and Language Arts.Learning Labs: Students that I will be working with virtually will also have the opportunity to meet face-to-face in Learning Labs. These sessions will be held at River Oaks and are agreed upon by the parent and teacher. Students that attend Learning Labs will receive support with assignments, essential standards, or tasks that they need extra support with.
RESOURCES Benchmark Universe  Benchmark Universe is the new Language Arts Curriculum that will be used by Dearborn Public Schools. This platform includes content knowledge that is aligned across all grade levels. With an integration of science, social studies, and literacy topics—teachers are able to introduce lessons that are aligned with grade level content and focus on essential standards. Benchmark Universe is ELL friendly! With Integrated English Language Development support (iELD) teachers can tell where the lessons are most linguistically demanding and teach those sections with supports that tailor to the needs of ELs. The curriculum also includes Intervention support which is a great tool for students that are struggling, or are English Language Learners. To access student resources, homework (workbooks) visit https://dearbornpsd.benchmarkuniverse.com/
BUILDING COMMUNITY AND CULTURETBD
Although this school year is very different from what we are used to, it’s important to remember that this is a learning experience for everyone. What’s important is that we’re all in this together. With the fluidity and flexibility of things, parents and students should keep in mind that teachers are looking to support them in any way possible. Therefore, don’t hesitate to reach out and communicate with teachers and staff when you need support. Build routines at home that make learning enjoyable and exciting! I look forward to seeing all your faces virtually very soon and hope that we’re only that much closer to going back to our buildings, classrooms, and normal way of interacting with one another.
Best regards,
Ms. Naideen Charara
