Please take the time to go on Khan Academy and practice for the SAT over the weekend.Below are some tips to help you with the reading portion of the test. Remember “Practice makes Perfect” :
- Read the first paragraph thoroughly and the topic sentences of every paragraph. You can skim through the rest.
-Questions are in chronological order which makes it easier to scan the text to find the answers.
-Most questions are based on textual evidence ie you will find the answer directly in the text.
-For vocabualry use context clues to find the meaning.Even if you know the word from prior knowledge do not assume you know the answer.Words can change meaning in context.
- At least two questions are related to each other in every reading passage, one asks a questions and the next one asks for textual evidence. A good strategy to use would be to check the evidence provided in the second question before you answer the first question.
- Always read the introductory paragraph in italics because it has all the SOAPS elements of the text.
-The author’s purpose or the claim are usually found the in the first paragraph and might be restated in the conclusion.
-Review tone words, author’s purpose words
