Parade :(

The parade set for Thursday has been CANCELLED! Teachers were instructed that the parade does not follow guidance set forth by the Governor. So, we will have to reschedule the parade once they lift the ban on the “lock in”.

I am so sorry- please tell your child that I miss them. Next time I go out for groceries I will let you know so that kids can watch for me.

Plans for March 24th…

Did you all get a notification from the Public Safety Alert? Shesh, that buzzer noise make me jump! I’m glad they are making sure everyone is aware of the changes in our lives, but that noise caught me by surprise!

Tommy made a YouTube video today! Make sure you check it out in the “screen time” section of the plans for tomorrow…..they can be found here—> https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Xe-olBWpW2g3IRdVUB6j1wJryq7CA27efu8s2uyf13c/edit?usp=sharing

I saw this comic on facebook and thought I would share a little bit of humor- especially since this was the story we worked on last week! Finding the humor in the things I cannot control- helps me keep my cool in rough times…enjoy!

*River Oaks Teacher Parade*

We want to spread some River Oaks love with our teacher parade on Thursday, March 26th!

River Oaks staff will be leading a school community parade through our school neighborhoods. We WILL be mindful of social distancing and safety – therefore staff will be remaining in their cars and will NOT be stopping. Look for us in our cars as we will be waving, honking, smiling, and maybe even throwing out some extra love!

We encourage you to wear your River Oaks pride shirts, or River Oaks colors. Feel free to wave from your windows or come out on your front porches. Want to get creative? Make a special poster to shout out some love to your special teachers and staff members.

We can’t wait to see all your smiling faces as we have missed you all dearly.

We will be leaving the schools parking lot around 12:15 and head down Garling and through that neighborhood then cross over to the neighborhood behind the school. Then we will head down Ann Arbor Trail to University Dr. Neighborhood. Then to Parkland and that surrounding neighborhood. Then we head down Ann Arbor Trail and head towards the Military Hills neighborhoods across towards English gardens then over to Hazelton, Virgil, Riverdale, Riverview, Appleton, Grayfield and Dale. . It will be about 40 minutes throughout the neighborhoods so please wait for us we promise not to miss anyone.

Update from District

March 20, 2020

Greetings Parents and Students,

Hard to believe that it has been only a week since our schools were closed. With all of the additional closures that have occured over the past week this continues to be a challenging time for everyone. All of us here at the Dearborn Public Schools appreciate the work that parents are doing to keep their students engaged in the learning activities that our teachers continue to provide.

Today, the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) shared a memo regarding instructional time during a mandatory school closure. The memo stated the following:

“There is no mechanism to earn instructional time during a period of mandated school closure. However, schools can and are encouraged to offer supplemental learning opportunities to students using distance learning methods as they see fit.“

Although the district is closed in accordance with the state-mandated closure, there are many opportunities for students to continue their learning at home. The resources shared by the teachers are intended to help students maintain skills. These resources will serve as enrichment activities for students and participation will not impact their grades.

As of March 20, 2020 the state-mandated school closure is scheduled to end on April 3rd, 2020. If schools are required to be closed past that date, MDE will need to make decisions regarding several issues such as graduation, make-up days, ending the school year early, or extending the school year past the scheduled end date. Dearborn, along with all other districts in the state, do not have answers to these questions and will continue to seek further guidance from MDE as this very fluid situation continues to develop.

We understand that the uncertainty of the school year is very unsettling and can cause stress and frustration for students and parents. We ask that everyone please have patience while we work through the current conditions. Please continue to check the teacher and school communication that is available as well as the district website for information as it becomes available.

Have a safe and restful weekend!

Last Call for a Chrome book!

Mr. Martin is loaning out chrome books to those who need technology at home for school work.

Pick up day will be offered one last time on Monday, March 23rd at 9:00am. This is drive thru style- drive up to the front of the River Oaks building. – STAY IN YOUR CAR! – A staff member will bring a form to sign and a chrome book/charger to your car. For the safety of those willing to help with distribution- stay at least 6 feet away from staff members and if possible, please wear gloves. Keep my teacher friends safe!

When you borrow a chrome book you are responsible for damages to the chrome book, so a PARENT must pick up. You will need wifi at home to use the chrome book.

Let me know if you are planning to get a chrome book, or if you have any questions!
