Playgrounds closed

The following is a message from the Dearborn Public Schools.

Playgrounds Closed – #Students1stDbnSchs-

Greetings,

The weekend is here and although the weather forecast is calling for rain, we all like to get outside and get some fresh air. This is especially true during this time of year when the temperatures are on the rise and we all have been spending a lot of time inside.

Many are thinking that it might be alright to get outside and have children play with one or two friends. Unfortunately, this is not something we should be doing at this time. The battle to stop the spread of the COVID 19 virus is on-going and gathering in small groups, even outside at the local park is not something we should be doing.

During the State of Michigan mandated shut down, all Dearborn Public School facilities, including playgrounds, and athletic fields, will be closed to the public. Please do not attempt to go onto the fields or access the playgrounds.  If you are found on the property you will be asked to leave.

The Governor has ordered that we all shelter in place.  This is not a recommendation or suggestion. This action is being taken to help in the effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus and to mitigate the number of people becoming sick. Hospitals in southeastern Michigan are being overwhelmed and are reaching the point where they are unable to meet the needs of those arriving for care. We must all do our part to help slow the spread of this virus and remain at home!

The Governor did say that it is ok to go for a walk, run, or bike ride. However, we can not gather in groups at local parks or playgrounds.

We look forward to the day, hopefully in the not too distant future, when our facilities will once again be open to the public and we can all return to our regular routines. The District appreciates all of the support that the Dearborn community has shown and the tremendous amount of community spirit that has been demonstrated during this very difficult time.  Together we will get through this, one community, #DearbornStrong!

Road to Revolution Review Answers

What is power and what is authority? What is the difference between using power with authority and using power without authority?

Power is the ability to control or influence others. Authority the right to use power or to influence or control others.

Using power with authority means you are exerting power over people and you have the authority or right to do it.

Using power without authority means you are trying to control others without having the right to do so.

What are the reasons the French and Indian War was fought, who fought against who, who won and what happened to the land of North America as a result?

The French and Indian War was a war fought over control of the Ohio River Valley. The French & some Native Americans fought against the British & other Native Americans.

The British won and France lost all its land in North America.

What did Britain try to do to the colonies as a result of expenses incurred from fighting the French and Indian War?

Britain tried to pay for the expenses of the French and Indian War by passing the Sugar Act which taxed the colonists for sugar and other goods.

How did the colonies feel about this?

The colonists were not happy about the Stamp Act.  They protested and boycotted.

What was the Proclamation of 1763?

The Proclamation of 1763 said that the colonists were forbidden to settle lands west of a line drawn through the Appalachian Mountains.

Who made the proclamation and why was it made?

The Proclamation of 1763 was issued by King George lll.

He issued it because Pontiac’s Rebellion threatened to cause issues between the colonists and the Native Americans and it would have been too expensive for Britain to constantly be protecting the colonists from fights with the Native Americas.

How did the colonists feel about it? Why did they feel that way?

The colonists were very upset.  They felt that they should have the right to settle where they chose.  Many of them had already settled there and were given land there by the British government as payment for fighting in the French and Indian War.

Did the King have the power and authority to make this proclamation?

As the King of Britain and therefore the colonies the King had the power and authority to make this proclamation.

Why did Parliament adopt the Stamp Act?

Parliament adopted the Stamp Act to try to pay back the debt from the French and Indian War and the expensives from having to protect all the new land they got during the war.

 What was the colonists’ reaction?

The colonists were angry because they felt that the only group that should tax them were the colonial legislatures.  They did not think they should be taxed when they did not have representatives in Parliament.

Why did Parliament adopt the Townshend Act?

The British wanted to get the colonies to pay for themselves. The Townshend Acts were specifically to pay for the salaries of officials such as governors and judges. … They had repealed an earlier tax called the Stamp Act because of colonial protests, but thought that taxes on imports would be okay.

What was the colonists’ reaction?

The colonists held protests and boycotts.  The tea portion of the Townshend Acts caused the protest called the Boston Tea Party.

What goods were taxed as a part of the Townshend Acts?

The Townshend Acts imposed taxes on British china, glass, lead, paint, paper and tea.

What was the main cause of the Boston Massacre?

It all began with a small argument between a British soldier and a few colonists outside the Custom House in Boston on King Street. The argument began to escalate as more colonists gathered and began to harass and throw sticks and snowballs.

Soon there were over 50 colonists at the scene. The local British officer of the watch, Captain Thomas Preston, sent a number of soldiers over to the Custom House to maintain order. However, the sight of British soldiers armed with bayonets just aggravated the crowd further. They began to shout at the soldiers, daring them to fire.

Captain Preston then arrived and tried to get the crowd to disperse. Unfortunately, an object thrown from the crowd struck one of the soldiers and knocked him down. He fired into the crowd. After a few seconds of stunned silence, a number of other soldiers fired into the crowd as well. Three colonists died immediately and two more died later from wounds.

What effect did the Boston Massacre have on the feelings of the colonists towards Britain?

The colonists used the Boston Massacre as a symbol of how the British felt about them.  Many colonists were very angry and colonists who were not really sure what to think before this decided that they did not like the British anymore.

Why did Britain issue the Intolerable Acts?

Britain issued the Intolerable Acts as punishment for the Boston Tea Party and to show the colonists they were still in charge.  They tried to use Massachusettsas an example to the other colonies that they should behave.

Did the Intolerable Acts end up causing the colonies to unite or divide?  Why?

The Intolerable Acts ended up bringing the colonists together because the colonists saw that they needed to stick together or their colony might be next to receive such harsh punishment.

What was the role of the First Continental Congress?  (What did they vote to do?)

The colonists wanted to fix their relationship with Britain but also try to get Britain to see that they should be in charge of themselves a bit.  They also

wanted to talk to Britain about having representation before they are taxed.

What was the main argument the colonists had with Britain in regards to all the different taxes? (Hint:  It is a pretty famous saying.)

No taxation with representation.

Patrick Henry gave what important (and very famous) speech to convince the colonists to go to war?

“Give me liberty or give me death.”

I had created a Jeopardy game for you to play. I will post it tomorrow.

I found an cool site that allows you to watch the different cameras at the Monterey Bay Aquarium live.
