Bryant Middle School 6th Grade Orientation Information
If you have a current 5th grader who will be attending Bryant Middle School in the fall of the 2020-21 school year, please go to the Bryant Middle School blog page to learn more about Bryant and the opportunities for your child.  After you have viewed the information, please have your child select two extended core classes using the embedded survey.  Students must use their District gmail account to complete the survey.  Here is a link to the post on the Bryant blog:  Bryant School Blog – 6th Grade Orientation

Thanks,
Mr. Denison

We will be having a Big Blue Button meeting today at 1:00. Big Blue Button can be accessed through our class iLearn. We will be discussing the memory book assignment and going over the math review. Please be prepared by making sure you are finished with the math review.

Students, if you are turning in an assignment on Google classroom that was assigned 5/11 – 5/21 please email me that you have turned it in. (This DOES NOT apply to students who are up to date with assignments.) Google classroom doesn’t notify me when you hand it in. This is not necessary for current assignments that were made this week 5/26 – 5/29.  I will not be accepting work from the weeks of 4/20, 4/27, or 5/4 unless there is a health or technology issue that you contact me about.

************Don’t forget that Mrs. Baloga, Mr. Harvey, Mr. Goeke, Mrs Ackerman, Mrs. Poisson, and Mr. Kwiecien have assignments on Google classroom for you to work on.************

Math: Today we are going over the Module 6 Mid module review that was due today. Please be at our 1:00 live meeting to check it with us and ask questions. Your test is tomorrow. Have a tab open on your computer to check it during the meeting or if you printed it, have that in front of you. You may want to print it to make corrections. I returned them to you this morning.

Planning: I will be spacing the Mystery out over the week, a little part each day, with a quiz assignment this week on Friday. If you prefer, you may pace yourself as needed, as you will have access to the whole Mystery and activity sheets for this week today. I hope this gives you flexibility as needed at home.

In this week’s Mystery 6, students investigate the hypothesis that an asteroid impact caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. In the activity, Create a Dinosaur Food Web, students use cards and construction paper connectors to create a food web from the time of the dinosaurs. Using this model, they follow the flow of energy through the food web and figure out why dinosaurs went extinct but some other animals survived. Today, start the video and watch the exploration part. You should have your anchor phenomenon papers handy and a blank page to take notes during the Mystery this week. Answer the discussion questions within the Mystery on your blank paper. We will do the activity tomorrow, so you can stop there; at the slide that says “Find a partner to work with.” https://mysteryscience.com/ecosystems/mystery-6/food-webs-flow-of-energy/212?code=MTI2MzM1NjE&t=student

ELA

This week we will work through an old issue of Scholastic News, I’m Fighting for Clean Water. Just like before, we are going to the Scholastic News site and logging in with our google account. Here is the link:https://classroommagazines.scholastic.com/ Once you log in as usual, you will need to click on the 3 lines to right of the words Scholastic News, top left, and on the drop down menu go to all issues. Scroll down until you get to the issue we are going to read, it is from 10-7-19. It is on page 2, so you need to click next at the bottom of the first page and scroll some more. For today read the articles, Honoring Our Past, This Frog is as Big as a Cat, and Flying Without Wings. Watch the videos as well. There is no assignment today, you will get the rest of the articles and an assignment tomorrow.

Writing: You will be writing your page for the 5th Grade Memory Book. You will write a special memory from each of your years at Lindbergh. If you were at Lindbergh K – 5 then fill it out as is. If you were not at Lindbergh in all the grades, change the grades so that you have six memories. For example, you may have Two memories each for third – fifth grade. Or you may have 6 memories for fifth grade because you were at Lindbergh only in 5th grade. Please see the sample included with the assignment for help. Please keep your memory page positive and appropriate. Make sure you use correct spelling and punctuation. Please do not change the font style or size. This is due Thursday at 9:00 am. The assignment is on Google classroom. There is a sample page on Google classroom to help you better understand the assignment. Remember, if you do not do your page you will not have a page in the memory book.

If you have not completed your Farewell Speech please finish it and hand in today!

Social Studies: Benedict Arnold was a brave leader in the Continental Army. He was passed over for promotions and did not get the credit he felt he deserved for his victories…..then this happened!!! Make sure you watch and read knowing you will have to answer questions.
