Dearborn Public Schools

5/13

on May 13, 2020

We will be having a Big Blue Button meeting today at 1:00. Big Blue Button can be accessed through our class iLearn. Don’t forget that as a part of the meeting we will discuss the question that was part of the Scholastic News assignment QUESTION: What steps does Sky take to achieve her goal?

Students, if you are turning in an assignment on Google classroom that was assigned 5/4 – 5/8 please email me that you have turned it in. (This DOES NOT apply to students who are up to date with assignments.) Google classroom doesn’t notify me when you hand it in. This is not necessary for current assignments that were made this week 5/11 – 5/15.  I will not be accepting work from the weeks of 4/20 and 4/27 unless there is a health or technology issue that you contact me about.

************Don’t forget that Mrs. Baloga, Mr. Harvey, Mr. Goeke, Mrs Ackerman, Mrs. Poisson, and Mr. Kwiecien have assignments on Google classroom for you to work on.************

Today and tomorrow we will continue the current issue of Scholastic News. Log in with our google account. Here is the link: https://classroommagazines.scholastic.com/ For today read the articles, Read-A- Palooza and Who Will It Be?. Watch the videoas well if you did not watch them yet this week. Complete the assignment on Google Classroom; Scholastic News 5-11 Part 2.  This includes the Close Reading questions, the quiz on the back of the magazine, and Quiz Whiz PDF.  Once you complete the whole assignment, hit turn in.

****You should be on Raz Kids for at least 15 minutes per day. This is an assignment even though it is not on Google Classroom. I will be checking your progress on a regular basis.

Leader In Me: After you watch the video, think about a time you did not Begin with the End in Mind. How did it work out? Then think about a time you did Begin with the End in Mind. Did it work out better for you? Which do you think is a better choice?

Spelling: You have a new list on Spelling City with lots of fun activities and a test on Friday. If you don’t log in through Google it will not record any of your activities or your test for me to see. You should be working on Spelling City every day even though it is not an assignment on Google Classroom. I am checking your progress on a regular basis!

Writing: Think about a superpower you would like to have. A superpower could be flying, invisibility, super speed, super strength, being bulletproof, controlling the weather etc. Why would you like that super power? How would you use it? Please complete the writing assignment, My Superpower, on Google Classroom correctly and completely by Thursday. (Remember that a superpower does NOT involve a weapon. Please do not include weapons in your writing.) If you haven’t finished this yet please do that today.

Social Studies: After the French decided to help the Americans, Congress decided it needed to show a united front to the French and come up with an Articles of Confederation, which was a plan for our new government. Of course there were issues! Also, the American Army continues to fight and this episode shows us the Battle of Monmouth. Watch the video to find out what happens. Then go to Google Classroom to answer the questions dealing with today’s video. I have given you the videos and questions for today’s and Friday’s assignments. You can choose when you will do these. They are due on Monday so you can do each part separately without turning in until you are completely done or do both videos today. You could also do both on Thursday or Friday to give you time to get caught up with other things. Just so you are done with the entire assignment on Monday it doesn’t matter when you do it.
