on April 17, 2020

We will be having a Google meeting today, Friday April 17th, at 11:00 am. We are no longer able to use ZOOM so we will be using Google Meet for the rest of the year. I will be posting the link on Google classroom five minutes before the meeting. Please look over the meeting norms. This is the way our meetings will have to be run from now on. You will need to have your math review from yesterday completed and available so we can go over it at the meeting. We will also discuss this week’s Scholastic News assignments.

See you at 11:00!

Hi all, teachers are required to do virtual professional development all this week, therefore it may take me longer than normal to respond to your emails.

Please check through Google classroom to see what assignments you may be missing. Please complete assignments from before spring break if you have not done so already.

Students, if you are turning in an assignment on Google classroom that was assigned 3/16 – 4/3, please email me that you have turned it in. (This DOES NOT apply to students who are up to date with assignments.) Google classroom doesn’t notify me when you hand it in. This is not necessary for current assignments that were made this week, 4/13 – 4/17.

Also, some assignments are created by me and some are created by Mrs. Stetz. You should be doing all of them. This is similar to what we did in school but you might not have been aware of it.

Don’t forget that Mrs. Baloga, Mr. Harvey, Mr. Goedke, and Mrs Ackerman have assignments on Google classroom for you to work on.

We will start our Friday with a little peanut butter in a cup!

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra is having a LIVE web cast event today!

HAPPY, SAD, SILLY, SCARY:

Please complete the Topic C Review assignment on Google Classroom. We will go over the review during our Google Meeting today. I will then post the answers later today as well in case you can not make our meeting. You can always go back and watch videos from past days if you need to review.

ELA/Science

I have included the Scholastic News Page about how to make a compost pile. Read through the instructions and answer the questions in the doc attached to the Google Classroom assignment. Actually making the compost pile is an OPTIONAL activity for fun with your family. If you do it, let us know how it goes on the bottom of the assignment! You can even take pictures and share if you like.

Science

Complete any unfinished science from this week; the anchor phenomenon assignment is in Google Classroom.

ELA

You will need to finish the assignment from the current issue of Scholastic News. Log in with our google account. Here is the link: https://classroommagazines.scholastic.com/  Finish the articles, What a Waste and He Grew Up to Start Earth Day. Watch the video Going To Waste as well. Complete the assignments on Google Classroom; Close Reading, quiz on the back of the magazine, and Quiz Whiz and hit turn in. If you have not completed your chapter book from before break, complete that and finish the assignment titled: Novel Project in Google Classroom. This is due next Friday so you have time to finish.

Spelling- Go to Spelling City today.  Take the practice test for this week and do an activity for practice.

Social Studies: Here is an important historical quote: “There is something absurd in supposing a continent to be perpetually governed by an island.” -Thomas Paine While you are watching the videos and reading the Ducksters article please try to think what the quote might mean. We will talk about it at our Google meeting on today so be ready with your thoughts. There is an assignment on Google classroom for you to complete. Don’t worry because it is not due until Monday so you will have plenty of time to finish it. If you have not watched the videos or completed the assignments from earlier this week please finish those first so you can follow the historical events in order. If you need any help, please email hicksol@dearbornschools.org

I hope you all had a fabulous Friday and that you learned something old, something new, and found something that gave you a laugh or at least a smile. Remember that you have the gift of being home with your family and try to do something fun with whoever you are at home with. Have an adult teach you to cook something or fix something. Create something by drawing, painting, or just building a sculpture out of stuff that you have around the house. Write a poem, a story, an informational article, or a journal. Make up a dance or a song or a silly exercise. Enjoy your weekend!
