Recap of January 7 to January 11

Español I

This last week, students in Spanish 1 received their semester exam study guide (exam information and links for important study resources) with a practice exam. Throughout the week, students engaged in the different activities in the practice exam. This upcoming week, students will take a survey on the first semester and then play a fifty question Kahoot followed by a final Jeopardy review on Tuesday before their exams on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Español II

Recap of December 17 to December 21

Español I

This past week, students in Spanish 1 worked on various vocab activities for the new chapter 3.1, which will be a part of the final vocabulary on the first exam in mid-January. Students watched an episode of the tv show Extra on Friday. The only homework over break will be optional to study chapter 3.1 vocabulary and other vocabulary to prepare for the exam.

Español II

This past week, students in Spanish 2 finished their conversational quiz and later worked on various vocab activities for the new chapter 8.1, which will be a part of the final vocabulary on the first exam in mid-January. Students watched an episode of the tv show Extra on Friday. The only homework over break will be optional to study chapter 8.1 vocabulary and other vocabulary to prepare for the exam.

Recap of December 10 to December 14

Español I

This past week, students in Spanish 1 began by finishing their interpersonal speaking quiz and finished watching the movie Los dos Escobar. Students reviewed vocabulary with games on Tuesday and Wednesday as well as reviewing their interpersonal quizzes and vocab/interpretive quizzes in class. On Thursday and Friday, students already began the Chapter 3 vocabulary playing some games and engaging in conversations.

Español II

This past week, students in Spanish 2 began by reviewing for their vocab/interpretive quiz by playing Jeopardy on Monday, followed by their quiz on Tuesday. Students then had two full days of content and conversational preparation for their interpersonal speaking quiz that began on Friday. Students are watching the main parts of a film called Diarios de Motocicleta (The Motorcycle Diaries) that chronicles Che Guevara’s first and most influential trip around South America.

Recap of December 3 to December 7

Español I

This week, students in Spanish 1 reviewed for their C.2.2 vocabulary and interpretive quiz on Tuesday through a Jeopardy review game on Monday. On Wednesday, students practiced conversations and conversational techniques using practice situations. On Thursday and Friday, students engaged in conversations for an interpersonal (speaking) quiz, while watching an informative video on the rise and fall of Colombian soccer due to the infamous cartels in the 80’s and 90’s.

Español II

This week, students in Spanish 2 learned about the health effects that smart phones can have incorporating the unit’s vocabulary and grammar. Students then discussed mental health on Wednesday learning about the high level of happiness in Latin American countries, with Nicaragua in particular. On Thursday, with a partner students created posters using commands (the grammar component of this unit) and unit vocabulary about things to do and not to do to take care of your health. Students then presented these posters on Friday.

Recap of November 26 to November 30

Español I

This last week, students in Spanish 1 started the week off by doing a couple of vocab games with partners and computers: Jugamos con el juez (Playing with the Judge) and Palabra secreta (The Secret Word). Students then watched a couple videos of native speakers talking about the food and activities that they like to do, understanding the main idea and important details of what was being said in the videos. On Thursday and Friday, students read and compared infographics (pictures with text) in Spanish about the most popular music listened to in both Mexico and Latin America. Finally students began an activity at the end of Friday called Asiento caliente (Hot Seat) in which they ask questions in Spanish to a student in the hot seat.

Español II

This last week, students in Spanish 2 started the week off by doing a couple of vocab games with partners and computers: Jugamos con el juez (Playing with the Judge) and Palabra secreta (The Secret Word). Students then listened to various tv commercials related to current vocabulary and tried to figure out what products and vocabulary they applied to. Students then played Piccionario (Pictionary) with the vocabulary and learned about informal negative commands combined with a Kahoot game and partner activities.

Recap of November 19 and 20

Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students watched an Argentine animated movie called Metegol about characters in a small town that value their foosball table, whose figurines become alive. Students also got feedback on their libritos before they left for Thanksgiving break.

Español II

This week in Spanish 2, students learned about symptoms and recommendations relating to heart problems, specifically talking about heart attacks: what to do and what certain symptoms look like. Students also watched another episode from the Spanish tv show Cuéntame related to their health unit that chronicles the fire that happened at Alcalá 20 in Madrid.

Recap of November 12 to November 16

Español I

This last week students in Spanish 1 conversed in Spanish about their favorite music and favorite movie types with the new vocabulary. On Tuesday, students watched an informative documentary called Latin Music USA detailing the rise of latina music in the last twenty to thirty years in the United States, and continued to discuss this movie on Wednesday. Students worked on their own libritos (little books) about things they like and do not like, as this is the main grammatical part of this 2.2 unit. On Friday, students then presented these libritos.

Español II

This last week students in Spanish 2 began the week by commenting on the daily routine of woman from Spain and also played a vocab game with a partner. Students then had a Jeopardy review of unit 7.1 for their quiz on Friday. Students took their vocab and grammar quiz on Wednesday, working on a crossword puzzle of the next unit vocabulary afterwards. On Thursday, students analyzed an infographic of 10 steps for a healthy life. Friday students watched excerpts from a popular tv show in Spain: Cuéntame relating to certain health topics in the current vocabulary.

Recap of November 5 to November 9

Español I

Students in Spanish 1 started last week with by finishing their Day of the Dead movie: El libro de la vida. Tuesday there was no school for students and neither on Wednesday because of a lack of power in the school. On Thursday, students reviewed descriptions of characters in the movie and then discussed their participation while playing a vocab game called Gimkit. On Friday students practiced their new vocabulary by identifying types of authentic music and trailers of authentic movies in Spanish.

Español II

Students in Spanish 2 started last week with by finishing their Day of the Dead movie: Coco. Tuesday there was no school for students and neither on Wednesday because of a lack of power in the school. On Thursday, students reviewed the main idea and details of the movie they watched in Spanish and then discussed their participation while playing a vocab game called Gimkit. On Friday students practiced reflexive verbs in context watching a video of someone’s daily routine and then played a Kahoot game practicing the reflexive verbs.

Recap of October 29 to November 2

Español I

Last week, students reviewed for their quiz on Tuesday by playing Jeopardy. On Tuesday, students then took their quiz, an assessment on Chapter 2.1 vocabulary and grammar (the use of the verb “to be”). Students then learned about Day of the Dead traditions (for the holiday last week) and began watching The Book of Life in Spanish, which they will continue on Monday. Students were also given a presentation by Access Healthy Living Initiative on Thursday.

Español II

Last week, students practiced their vocabulary and interpretive skills by reading an infographic on ways to sleep well. Students worked on understanding the main idea and details, as well as trying to understand words in context. Students then learned about Day of the Dead traditions (for the holiday last week) and began watching Coco in Spanish, which they will continue on Monday. Students were also given a presentation by Access Healthy Living Initiative on Thursday.

Recap of October 22 to October 26

Español I

At the beginning of last week, students analyzed different scenes in the movie También la lluvia, looking at different metaphors and symbolisms presented in the film. Students then described using Chapter 2.1 vocabulary the different characters in the film. On Tuesday students played a game called Jugamos con el juez in which students competed in groups of 3 or 4 to guess the vocabulary word based on the photo on the Chromebook. On Wednesday and Thursday, students engaged in a variety of activities and games such as real conversations and Kahoot with the verb ser (to be). On Friday there was a sub and students watched another episode of the tv show Extra and afterwards completed a vocabulary crossword puzzle and studied additional vocabulary.

Español II

At the beginning of last week, students created in Spanish what are called circunloquios. These are essential definitions in Spanish with classifications and descriptions. This is important for students to be able to identify words and produce language in the same stroke on assessments. Students then played a game called Jugamos con el juez in which students competed in groups of 3 or 4 to guess the vocabulary word based on the photo on the Chromebook. Later in the week, students played a few games, such as Quizlet Live, with the circunloquios from the vocabulary that the students created. On Friday there was a sub and students watched another episode of the tv show Extra and afterwards completed a vocabulary crossword puzzle and studied additional vocabulary.
