Recap of March 18 to March 22

Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students began the week by giving their mini-presentations about what is “in their backpack.” Students also played a few vocab games, and practiced circunloquios, a way to describe a Spanish vocab word in Spanish. Students on Thursday then watched a video about a boy in Colombia and his passion for singing leading him to The Voice Colombia. On Friday students took their vocab and interpretive quiz.

Español II

This week in Spanish 2, students began the week by giving their mini-presentations about their Independence Day from last year. Students also played a few vocab games, and practiced circunloquios, a way to describe a Spanish vocab word in Spanish. Students on Thursday then watched a video talking about the most importante national symbols in Guatemala and put together their own most important American national symbols. On Friday students took their vocab and interpretive quiz.

Recap of March 11 to March 15

Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students learned about Milton Santos and Jorge Amado, discussing metaphorically what was “in their backpack.” Students then began activity taking about what is “in their backpack,” highlighting areas that they are passionate about,  that will be used for a mini-presentation on Monday.

Español II

This week in Spanish 2, students learned about the history of Mexican Independence Day and some of its traditions, and also talked about the 2017 Independence Day in particular through a video. Students then began an activity chronicling their Independence Day celebrations from last year that will be used for a mini-presentation on Monday.

Recap of March 4 to March 8

Español I

This past week in Spanish 1, students practiced new vocabulary and grammar activities including a couple of vocab games on Tuesday. On Wednesday to reinforce their abilities with the present tense, students took an online present tense quiz, the majority doing very well. On Thursday, students used both their vocabulary and grammar in context by doing a Buscapersonas, where they had to get up and find different students talking in Spanish that fulfilled requirements they needed. On Friday, students signed up for Duolingo, a mostly supplemental form of Spanish practice, and then ended the week with a second round matchup listening to two new songs in the Música de marzo contest.

Recap of February 25 to March 1

Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students began the week by reviewing their practice letters and studying the yo form a bit more in depth in preparation for their writing quiz on Tuesday. Students watched a short video after the writing quiz relating to dancing as a pastime in Colombia. On Thursday, students were presented with the new vocabulary for Chapter 4 and on Friday students watched an episode of the Spanish tv show Extra and began an activity called Música de marzo, in which classes listen to current Spanish songs in a bracket style and will decide who will win the “tournament.”

Español II

This week in Spanish 2, students began the week by reviewing their practice letters and studying the preterite past tense a bit more in depth in preparation for their writing quiz on Tuesday. Students watched a video after the writing quiz about the importance of planned obsolesce in the role of shopping. On Thursday, students were presented with the new vocabulary for Chapter 9 and on Friday students watched an episode of the Spanish tv show Extra and began an activity called Música de marzo, in which classes listen to current Spanish songs in a bracket style and will decide who will win the “tournament.”

Recap of February 19 to February 22

Español I

This week in Spanish 1, a few students finished their presentations and then began to discuss a place called La iglesia skate, an abandoned church that has become a skate park in northern Spain. Kids wrote a letter discussing their interest in this place amongst other activities and later in the week practiced their current vocabulary and grammatical tenses in a few different activities, one watching an Argentine children’s show regarding the importance of movement in the world. Students had their vocabulary and interpretive quiz  on Friday.

Español II

This week in Spanish 2, a few students finished their Madrid presentations and then began writing a letter in Spanish discussing their opinions and preferences of these places in Madrid. Students played a few vocabulary games later this week and watched a couple videos prompting ideas on how to save money. Students had their vocabulary and interpretive quiz  on Friday.

Español I

Last week in Spanish 1, students continued to work with the present tense. In addition, students began their mini-presentations on their vacation plans they’ve created in Yucatán, Southwest Mexico. Students will finish these presentations this upcoming week and continue to prepare for their vocab and interpretive quiz on Friday.

Español II

Last week in Spanish 2, students continued to work with the preterite past tense. In addition, students began their mini-presentations on a shopping vacation in Madrid they’ve created. Students will finish these presentations this upcoming week and continue to prepare for their vocab and interpretive quiz on Friday.

Recap of February 4 to February 8

Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students watched a promotional video for Mérida, a city in Mexico, as well as reading an article on the top places to go there. Then students began to plan a vacation of three days incorporating activities that they would like to do in Mérida and the surrounding Yucatán area. Students will present this information to their classmates on Monday of next week.

Español II

This week in Spanish 2, students watched a video regarding shopping in Madrid, the capital of Spain, as well as reading an article on the some of the best stores in Madrid. Then students began an activity talking about the different stores that students went to in Madrid and what they bought incorporating chapter vocabulary and the past preterite tense. Students will present this information to their classmates on Monday of next week.

Recap of January 22 to January 25

Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students played a name game on Tuesday and a few other activities to introduce themselves to other students in the class. On Thursday students were introduced to the new vocabulary identifying words on their vocab lists that they already knew and cognates. Students then were presented with the vocabulary in pictures. On Friday students learned the basics of the present tense followed by a Kahoot on the present tense.

Español II

This week in Spanish 2, students who had second hour Spanish played a name game on Tuesday and a few other activities to introduce themselves to other students in the class. On Thursday students were introduced to the new vocabulary identifying words on their vocab lists that they already knew and cognates. Students then were presented with the vocabulary in pictures. On Friday students learned the basics of the past (pretérito) tense followed by a short activity on this past tense.

This week in Spanish 1, students took a survey on the first semester and played a semester 1 Kahoot on Monday followed by a review game of Jeopardy on Tuesday. Students then had their final exam on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday depending on their hour.
