Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students played a few games practicing new vocabulary and reinforcing the verb ser from last unit. The second unit specifically focuses on descriptions of people and things.

Español II

This week in Spanish 2, students finished the movie Coco, practiced vocabulary through a couple games and began learning about reflexive verbs that are used in daily routines and often when talking about health, our new unit.

Recap of October 21 to October 25

Español I

Last week in Spanish 1, students analyzed cultural differences between Spain and Bolivia as they saw some in También la lluvia. In preparation of Day of the Dead at the end of the month, students looked at an infographic and did an online search relating to Day of the Dead and also how it is similar and different to Halloween, which is also celebrated at the end of the month. Students also watched a movie in Spanish called Book of Life that gives a visual representation of Day of the Dead.

Español II

Last week in Spanish 2, students individually presented their recipes in front of the class, doing a terrific job. On Tuesday, students did a Kahoot on Day of the Dead in preparation of the holiday at the end of the month. Students also began the Day of the Dead movie Coco, and read an article relating to the customs and traditions of the holiday Day of the Dead.

Recap of October 14 to October 18

Español I

Last week in Spanish 1, students played a Jeopardy review with a partner and an additional ser game in order to prepare for their ser and interpretive quiz on Tuesday. On Wednesday, students practiced writing a simple letter to a character from a Spanish tv program they recently watched. Later in the week, students began watching a movie called También la lluvia (Even The Rain) that highlights cultural differences between the U.S. and Spanish-speaking countries, but also between Spanish-speaking countries, in this case between Spain and Bolivia. Students will finish the movie on Monday and further investigate Spain and Bolivia with a partner on Monday.

Español II

Last week in Spanish 2, students finished their practice presentations on Monday and prepared for their commands and interpretive quiz on Tuesday. Later in the week students worked on their own individual recipe presentations that they will present on Monday of the upcoming week, and also took part in a cultural food day, bringing in food items that come from Spanish-speaking countries.

Recap of October 7 to October 11

Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students worked with personal pronouns and associating them with the verb ser, which means “to be.” Students also worked with telling time in Spanish, which also using the verb ser. At the end of the week, students took a look at real calendars from Spanish speaking countries and identified important dates from them. Next week Tuesday, students will have a ser, time and interpretive quiz with a very short writing quiz on Friday.

Español II

This week in Spanish 2, students took a look at how sopa de tortilla is prepared and then created their own simplified recipes from a Mexican dish. Students then began to present these on Thursday and will finish these practice presentations on Monday. Next week Tuesday, students will have a commands and interpretive quiz and an individual presentation next Friday.

Recap of September 30 to October 4

Español I

Last week in Spanish 1, students presented their skits, learned about the verb ser through a variety of games and activities and finally created a “small book” with examples of this verb in context. Next week, students will practice more personal pronouns and take a look at numbers and also calendars in preparation for their quiz on Tuesday, October 15th.

Español II

Last week in Spanish 2, students practiced giving and receiving directions with current unit vocabulary through a verb tense known as commands. Towards the end of the week, students played a game called “Chain Reaction” performing these different directions in the classroom and on Friday, students learned about a food called Chipa and created a simple recipe for it based on what they heard from a video. Next week, students will continue to practice with these authentic videos and articles and also the command verb form in preparation for their quiz on Tuesday, October 15th.

Recap of September 23 to September 27

Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students worked on presentations of a famous Spanish-speaking person from the Americas talking about their basic information. Students also played a few vocab games and then also created skits that they will perform the next week. On Friday, students took their first vocabulary quiz.

Español II

This week in Spanish 2, students played a few vocab games, learned about the Argentine street food sandwich the Churrasco and created a simple recipe for the Tres leches cake based on a video they watched. On Friday, students took their first vocabulary/grammar quiz.

Recap of September 16 to September 20

Español I

Last week in Spanish 1, students learned greetings and goodbyes in Spanish and played a few vocab games to reinforce vocabulary. Students also learned how to ask where someone is from and how to respond to that by an interactive activity with a partner. Later in the week, students worked with dates, focusing on birthdays. Next week, students will prepare for their first quiz, a vocab quiz, on Thursday.

Español II

Last week in Spanish 2, students took an in-depth at Patagonia, the region, that was the backdrop to the in-class activities of Francis Mallmann. With a partner, students found four different locations in Patagonia that they liked using a website in Spanish, and explained why they would like to go there, all done in Spanish. Students read about and watched a short video about a couple of Francis Mallmann’s restaurants and his cooking techniques. Students then later created their “own restaurant” with a menu of food items and descriptions. Students finished the week with a vocab game to reinforce vocabulary. Next week, students will prepare for their first quiz, a vocab quiz, on Wedensday.

Recap of September 9 to September 13

Español I

This week in Spanish 1, students continued working with the alphabet and spelling. Students were also introduced to the numbers 0-31 and played a few games to practice these numbers.

Español II

This week in Spanish 2, students practiced vocabulary through writing circunloquio, similar to definitions, and a couple of games. Students were also introduced to two verbs: ser and estar. Both verbs mean “to be” and students have been using the two in context preparing for and through a video that documents the life and career of Francis Mallmann, one of the most famous chefs from Latin America.

Recap of September 3 to September 6

Español I

Last week in Spanish 1, students participated in an activity called a partner map that will give students up to seventeen different partners for their first semester. Each partner is represented by an autonomous community, similar to a state, of Spain. On Wednesday, students did a curriculum search with a partner answering various questions related to the curriculum and class policies and expectations that will be enforced this year. On Thursday, students received and analyzed their first vocabulary list through a couple of techniques. They later played Pictionary with this vocabulary list. Finally on Friday, students learned the alphabet, listened and practiced an alphabet song that will help with remembering the letters, and practiced spelling with a partner.

Recap of August 26 to August 29

Español I

Last week in Spanish 1, students began the week playing the “name game” to master students’ names in classes. Students also learned a little bit about their teacher and presented a little information about themselves in Spanish. On Wednesday, students worked with names again and finished with a trivia game focused on the Spanish-speaking world. On Thursday, students learned about class policies, expectations, and where to find important class resources.
