Recap of September 10 to September 14

Español I

Last week, students in Spanish 1 worked with the Spanish alphabet, learned and used more introductory phrases, greetings, and farewells. On Tuesday and Wednesday, students put everything they know so far together into short diálogos (skits) in a group of three or four students. Students then presented these skits to other groups. Their Spanish is coming along very nicely! Students played a couple more games: one with the vocabulary, and another working with pronouns on the half-day on Friday. On the upcoming week, students know to expect a Chapter 1.1 vocabulary and grammar quiz on Tuesday, September 18.

Español II

Last week, students in Spanish 2 continued a cultural learning activity about the southern Argentine region of Patagonia. Then students learned the basics of the two verbs: ser and estar. These two verbs both mean “to be” and can be confusing, as in English there is only one verb. To practice ser and estar, students learned through an authentic Spanish video about a street food popular in much of South America, but especially in Argentina, called the churrasco. Students know that the upcoming week there is a Chapter 6.1 vocabulary and grammar (ser and estar) quiz on Friday, September 21.
