A message from the Principal

Please read the letter below from our new principal!

Dear Parents/Guardians of Snow Elementary,

It is with great pleasure and an honor to serve you as the new principal of Snow Elementary School beginning October 1st of this year. I look forward to meeting all of you and working alongside the community.  I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich legacy of success and so many points of pride. I have dedicated my career to the students of Dearborn for the last 16 years. I started my career as an elementary classroom teacher then moved on to an elementary resource teacher/instructional coach at Salina intermediate. I then moved on to be a middle school bilingual resource teacher and have spent the last four years as Assistant principal at Woodworth Middle School. I am eager to dedicate my skills to the Snow community.

As all of us embark on the upcoming school year we do so for the first time with high levels of uncertainty due to the current international crisis we all know as Covid-19. This has affected all of us in so many ways. Our students and community as a whole have had to encounter many hardships as a result. However, this will not deter our mission to make this school year the best one ever. I plan on working with parents, teachers, students and the entire Snow community to ensure that our students are safe and learning at high levels. Together we will continue to provide experiences that are rigorous, relevant and with relationships based on trust to prepare them for their future endeavors. As your new principal it is important to me to greet everyone who enters the school with the utmost respect. I have an open door policy and value every stakeholder’s opinion. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any concerns you may have or any points of pride you would like to share.

I look forward to our work together in the years to come and establishing a team committed to the Snow community. Please stay safe and have a great school year.

Sincerely,

Mohammad Abdelfattah

Snow Elementary Principal

Our First Zoom Live Lesson

Hello Kindergarten Families,

I hope you all enjoyed the Labor Day weekend! We will begin our first Zoom live lessons tomorrow (Tuesday, September 8th) at 9:00am. The Zoom link is available on my Schoology page. Please look for the course with the purple background. When you are there you will also find more information about the week and the materials your child will need for the lessons. Although we feel like we are prepared to begin, technology is sometimes unpredictable so we will work through this together. Patience is key. Attendance will be taken after every whole group Zoom meeting. I have also attached a general schedule of what our day will look like.

To log into Schoology, please have your child use their login information that was provided in the folder at orientation/supply pickup. When you go to the Dearborn Schools homepage, click on student portal. There you will find a link for Schoology. When you click on that, it should automatically take you to your child’s Schoology course.

Please check Class Dojo for more information and our weekly schedule outline.

Let’s Learn About Labor Day

Please click on the link above to watch the videos about Labor Day and listen to a story!

Think about someone you know who goes to work. It could be your mom, dad, aunt, uncle, cousin…remember to thank them for all their hard work. How will you spend your Labor Day? If the weather is nice, my family and I are going to have a BBQ!

Parents, please send me a picture of how your child will be spending their time (you don’t have to send it today, you can share it on Monday if you like or you can send it today along with a sentence explaining what you will do or what your plans are).

Can’t wait to hear from you!

Let’s Learn About Feelings

Please click on the link above to watch the videos about feelings and listen to a story!

Choose a feeling (i.e happy, mad, sad, hurt, excited, surprised) and share what made you feel this way. For example, Ms. Barakat was super excited to meet you all today! Send a picture of what your face would look like when you would have that feeling. Parents, please add a description to your child’s photo.

Accepting Differences

Please click on the link above to watch the video about acceptance and listen to a story!

Think about a time you were upset because someone made you feel not welcome. How did that make you feel? What can you do to make someone feel accepted?

For today, I would like you to do something kind for someone else and or say something nice to someone else. If you are able to, please take a video or picture and add a caption of your child completing one of these things and share it with me via email or Class Dojo.

Looking forward to seeing all of the kind things you will do!

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Hello Snow Wolves!

Happy first day of school! Although this is a very different start to the school year, I am just as excited to start an amazing school year with the BEST students around! I hope you have a wonderful first week. I am looking forward to “seeing” all of you in our classes.

Until we get Zoom and Schoology up and running I will be posting any new information on here. Please make sure to subscribe to my blog and you will get notified anytime there are updates.
