Basic Consumer Math

This course is designed for students working towards a certificate of completion. In this course, students will learn basic money management techniques and learn to manage checking and savings accounts. In addition, students will learn to use budgeting skills and account for daily living expenses. As part of this course, students will explore career interests and determine average salaries for those careers.

Fundamentals of Language Arts

This course id designed for students working towards a certificate of completion. In this class, students will expand and increase application of reading comprehension strategies for understanding narrative texts in the fantasy and adventure genres. Students will plan and deliver presentations, and will be expected to participate in interactive discussions, book clubs, and literary circles. As part of this course, students will be required to engage in the writing process to compose fictional writing.

Job Skills

This course is designed for students working towards a certificate of completion. In this class, students will learn valuable life skills that will help them in living and working more independently in their adult life. Students will be working in the school store where they will learn interpersonal skills when dealing with customers, making change, recognizing coins and bills, and adding and subtracting money. Students will also learn the importance and process of recycling. Throughout the semester, students will be given the opportunity to learn about their disabilities as well as the contents of their IEP. Finally, students will be given time to learn and practice soft skills necessary in the workplace such as writing proper emails, filling out resumes, and what to do at a job interview.
