Math

This week in math class, students continued working on place value. Students played a game on teams of two where they answered questions about counting change, writing numbers, and finding the place value of digits in large numbers. Students finished off the week working independently on a Number Sense Measure worksheet for their understanding of place value.

Language Arts

This week in Language Arts, students continued their work on context clues. Students have also started working on sight words. Our class is continuing listening to the teacher read The Adventurer’s Guild and answering comprehension questions.

Job Skills

This week in Job Skills class, students were split into two groups. The first group worked at the school store where they got to work with money, making change for customers. They also had to work on social skills by speaking with customers. The second group worked in the classroom. They started off the week learning about their IEP. With the help of their teacher, they went through their IEP and learned what different pages meant. They also discussed their current goals and accommodation. After this, students took a quiz that helped them learn their learning style, then another quiz that helped them determine what types of jobs would be a good fit for them. Students also went around the school and pick up recycling for teachers.

Math

This week in math class, students reviewed place value of whole numbers using a place value chart. They identified decimal points and commas and explained their importance when writing and reading numbers.

Language Arts

This week in language arts class, students worked on context clues using pictures to find missing words in sentences. Students also wrote in their journals describing their perfect Saturday. Finally, students worked on their listening comprehension by listening to a story being read to them and then answering questions and making predictions in their journals.

Job Skills

This week in Job Skills class, students were split into two groups. The first group worked at the school store where they got to work with money, making change for customers. They also had to work on social skills by speaking with customers. The second group worked in the classroom. They started off the week learning about their IEP. With the help of their teacher, they went through their IEP and learned what different pages meant. They also discussed their current goals and accommodation. After this, students took a quiz that helped them learn their learning style, then another quiz that helped them determine what types of jobs would be a good fit for them. At the end of the week, both student groups met in the cooking classroom where one of the senior students taught them about where things were located in the kitchen and safety when cooking. Students also delivered recycling bins to classrooms and offices that did not have bins and helped donate some school store merchandise to the Freshmen Tailgate.

Math

Welcome to math class! This course is designed for students working towards a certificate of completion. In this course, students will learn basic money management techniques and learn to manage checking and savings accounts. In addition, students will learn to use budgeting skills and account for daily living expenses. As part of this course, students will explore career interests and determine average salaries for those careers.

This week in math class, students got to know the classroom and each other. Students started the week learning the classroom norms and expectations. They then learned the importance of the three respects: respect yourself, respect others, and respect the world around you. Finally, students finished off the week by decorating a puzzle piece in a way that represents them. We talked about how people are like puzzle pieces because we all come in different shapes, sizes, and colors, but we all fit together in the big picture!

Fundamentals of Language Arts

This course id designed for students working towards a certificate of completion. In this class, students will expand and increase application of reading comprehension strategies for understanding narrative texts in the fantasy and adventure genres. Students will plan and deliver presentations, and will be expected to participate in interactive discussions, book clubs, and literary circles. As part of this course, students will be required to engage in the writing process to compose fictional writing.

This week in Language Arts class, students got to know the classroom and each other. Students started the week learning the classroom norms and expectations. They then learned the importance of the three respects: respect yourself, respect others, and respect the world around you. Finally, students finished off the week by writing an acrostic poem using their name. Students presented their poems to the class.

Job Skills

This course is designed for students working towards a certificate of completion. In this class, students will learn valuable life skills that will help them in living and working more independently in their adult life. Students will be working in the school store where they will learn interpersonal skills when dealing with customers, making change, recognizing coins and bills, and adding and subtracting money. Students will also learn the importance and process of recycling. Throughout the semester, students will be given the opportunity to learn about their disabilities as well as the contents of their IEP. Finally, students will be given time to learn and practice soft skills necessary in the workplace such as writing proper emails, filling out resumes, and what to do at a job interview.

They then learned the importance of the three respects: respect yourself, respect others, and respect the world around you. Finally, students have begun working on what types of merchandise they feel they should supply the school store with. They also are started learning about following work schedules reflecting next week’s work and lunch schedules.
