Important Announcement!

Students have been reminded that their Semester Long Life Skills Assignment is due Tuesday, January 15th, 2019. Students were expected to be working on the packet all throughout the semester before turning it in in January. If students have lost their copy of their packet another one can be found In the class links section under “Independent Living Skills Homework Assignment.” Since this is a semester long project, it is worth a lot of points. Not turning in this project will negatively affect students’ grades.

Math

Lately, in math class, students continued reviewing and practicing money skills. Students will continue working on money skills through bell work. Students completed a mini-project where they planned and budgeted for a holiday party for 15 people. This included creating a shopping list, calculating prices and change, and making sure to stay in the budget of $40. Currently, students are continuing a lesson on thinking mathematically through the process of understanding and solving one and two step real world story problems.

Language Arts

Lately, in Language Arts class, students continued working on punctuation, capitalization, and basic grammar rules through bell work. On Wednesdays, students practice reading and analyzing short articles using the 5 W’s (What, Who, Where, When, Why). Students also continue to work on their memory and listening comprehension by listening to the story The Adventurer’s Guild and having class discussions about the events of the plot and writing in their journals. On Mondays and Fridays, students are continuing their work in the First Author Writing Curriculum. Currently, students are working on the concept of brainstorming topics for writing.

Job Skills

This week in job skills students collected recycling and worked at the school store. Students had a mini-lesson on the importance of table manners right in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Students have also continued their work on how to have conversations with others. Students also have practiced filling out a job application and discussed the different types of information they will need when applying for a job.
