Important Massage!

Students have been reminded that their first check in for their Semester Long Life Skills Assignment is next Monday, October 1st. Students are expected to be working on the packet all throughout the semester before turning it in in January. If students have lost their copy of their packet another one can be found In the class links section under “Independent Living Skills Homework Assignment.”

Math

This week in math class, students started reviewing and practicing money skills. They have been working on identifying coins and bills by names and worth, adding coins and bills, and calculating change using a $20 bill. Place value has not been mastered yet and will continued to be addressed through daily bell work at the beginning of each class.

Language Arts

This week in Language Arts class, students have begun working on punctuation. We began this week with working on the difference between using a period (.), a exclamation point (!), and a question mark (?) by writing sentences for each one and sharing them with the class. Students also continue to work on their memory and listening comprehension by listening to the story The Adventurer’s Guild and having class discussions about the events of the plot.

Job Skills

This week in job skills students collected recycling, cooked pancakes, worked at the school store, and used the internet to research a career they were interested in pursuing after high school. Students will be creating a poster displaying their findings for their jobs.

Math

This week in math class, students continued working on place value. Students finished off the week working independently on a Number Sense Measure worksheet for their understanding of place value.

Language Arts

This week in Language Arts, students continued their work on context clues. Students have also started working on sight words. Our class is continuing listening to the teacher read The Adventurer’s Guild and answering comprehension questions.

Job Skills

This week in Job Skills class, students were split into two groups. The first group worked at the school store where they got to work with money, making change for customers. They also had to work on social skills by speaking with customers. The second group worked in the classroom. They started off the week learning about their IEP. With the help of their teacher, they went through their IEP and learned what different pages meant. They also discussed their current goals and accommodation. After this, students took a quiz that helped them learn their learning style, then another quiz that helped them determine what types of jobs would be a good fit for them. Students also went around the school and pick up recycling for teachers.
