Math- Please continue to work on addition and subtraction to 1,000.
Reading- We have been reading a biography about Susan B. Anthony. We wrote a short Biography about Susan B. Anthony.
SCIENCE – We continue to learn about bodies of water and landforms (earth science) in our unit.
SPELLING WORDS FOR NEXT WEEK ARE the Long a spelled /e/, /ee/, /ea/, and /y/. Please continue to point out the pattern of the spelling words each week and help your child discover words with these patterns in their reading. Soon, your child will be pointing these out to you, if they do not already. A good idea is to get a blank notebook and keep a list. Send them in for extra credit.
The long e words for this week are: beet, bean, detail, easy, feast, feet, heal, heat, funny, lucky, mean, neat, puppy, she, sweet.
Social Studies– We have started our new unit, How Do Citizens Live Together in a Community? It covers diversity and also government. Ask your child if they know what government is. We are also discussing what is good for the individual and what is good for all (individual rights and the common good). This is a very big discussion about not being selfish. Ask your child to explain it at home.
Now the question “Why do we form governments?” continues to be explored. Basically, the answers are to be safe, to make laws, provide services (police, firefighters, teachers…), and to help solve people’s problems.
