Field Trips- There are two field trips this year.  Mrs. Herrod and I go on field trips together.  One field trip is the same throughout Dearborn.  Second Grades go to the Dearborn Historical Museum (more information will come later).

Thank-you for sending in the field trip permission slips and the $5.00.  There were 3 requests to be chaperones and we can have  4, so thank-you for volunteering to go with us to the Cranbrook science museum.

Important Dates –Winter break- Feb. 17 – 21

On February 14, feel free to send in homemade or store-bought valentines.  There are 22 students.  This is such a nice holiday that celebrates giving to others.

Math help- Try this Eureka math help and games to make your child a top math student- https://bit.ly/35QeXMc     It is also on my BLOG.   I am starting to call home when there is too much homework missing.

SCIENCE – We are learning about bodies of water and landforms (earth science) in our unit.

SPELLING WORDS FOR NEXT WEEK ARE contractions.   Please continue to point out the pattern of the spelling words each week and help your child discover words with these patterns in their reading.  Soon, your child will be pointing these out to you, if they do not already.  A good idea is to get a blank notebook and keep a list.  Send them in for extra credit.

The contractions to study are: aren’t, can’t, couldn’t, doesn’t, hadn’t, haven’t, he’ll, I’ll, it’ll, let’s,  there’s,  we’ll,  who’s, wasn’t, you’ll.

Social Studies– We have started our new unit, How Do Citizens Live Together in a Community?  It covers diversity and also government.  Ask your child if they know what diversity is.

Now the question “Why do we form governments?” is being explored.  Basically, the answers are to be safe, to make laws and to solve people’s problems.

We will take the WIDA English test for writing next week.   WIDA testing is for those that take the English Test.   Encourage your child to do well and they can test out of it.  There are 2 students that do not have to take it.

Thank-you for making sure that your child reads with you at home.
