Important Days to Remember
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
Gym – Tuesday-Please remember to wear tennis shoes and bendable clothes (not jeans or slip on shoes).
NWEA COMPUTER TESTs FOR THE END OF THE YEAR ARE TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY.
Please try to have your child prepare with practice at home such as Prepdog.org.
Be sure to read and go over math this weekend. Most importantly, have your child get plenty of sleep and be well rested for the morning tests. Breakfast is important, also.
Field Trip – is on Tuesday, May 29th at the Cranbrook Science Center and students will need to bring a lunch with a drink (not pop or gatorade). We do not shop at the store. We are busy with exhibits, a demonstration on magnetism and electricity, the traveling exhibit about Rome and visiting the many different areas of the Center while doing a scavenger hunt. It is a fun and busy day. We share the bus with Mr.s Herrod’s class. Thank-you for sending in your permission slip and $2.00.
INVENTION FAIR- Our class will have an invention fair on Wednesday, June 6th at 1:30 p.m.. Your child should send in something that they created from the bag of recycled materials sent home last Monday. DO NOT THROW THIS BAG AWAY. Send in anything that isn’t used, if you are going to throw it away. I do not have extra bags and actually have to buy the scrap at a scrap store.
Your child should make either a game or something useful (but it does not have to work at this time). It is just the idea of what the invention can do. Your child will name the invention with a name that hasn’t been used before. If it is a game, he/she should develop rules to play it.
Your child could start writing about the invention at home, if they want. We will be writing an opinion paper selling the invention’s attributes to parents, staff and students that come to the invention fair. Your child will be the inventor selling the invention idea (short speeches) to all the presidents of different companies (invention fair visitors). Then the presidents decide to give $1,000.00, $100,000.00, or $1,000,000.00 dollars for the idea (They circle the amount on a piece of paper). The inventors add up their papers from the presidents (parents, staff, students) and find out how much money they made from their invention idea.
This is a big event! Please encourage your child to get their idea put together with the materials ( no store bought materials allowed) before the May 24th due date. Thank-you for your support and if you are available to come on Wednesday, June 6th at 1:30 p.m..
FRIDAY SPELLING TESTS
