Mrs. Ballnik’s Classroom News

My email is ballnic@dearbornschools.org

Please email me,if you can because I read it at least twice a day. Send notes or call the office and I will get back to you.  Today, you should have received a Class Dojo letter with a password.  This is a way to message me and for me to message you. Thank-you to those that have already signed up.  These messages can also be translated into other languages.

.  Important Dates to Remember:

Parent Meeting –Thank-you to those that were able to come to the parent meeting.

Open House– It was wonderful seeing everyone that came to Open House, yesterday.

We have a great group of children in our class and parents to match.

SCIENCE- We start the year learning about Physical Science and specifically, Matter.

I will send a Mystery Bag home next week, because we didn’t get to it this week.    Your child is to put something to describe inside the bag and then not tell anyone what it is.  Please do not put any food in, because it may rot. We will take turns letting the class use properties of matter to guess the item in the bag.  Help your child put the properties on the worksheet outside the bag to describe the item. The properties are in categories such as, size, shape, texture, color and hardness.  The students really enjoy this activity and it is a fun way to expand vocabulary.

PLANNERS– Please send these every day, because we use them. The spelling words will be written in them, also. There is a charge, if a planner is lost.

SPELLING–  Look for spelling words in the PLANNER each week.  I will choose 10 of the 15 words to give on the Friday test, so study them all.

SOCIAL STUDIES-  We are studying about our community and how we can be good citizens.

MATH- We will have a test next week on the first 8 lessons.  I will send home the Exit Slips which can be studied at home and corrected for practice.

READING- Please send in any Reading Bags from first grade.  I have a few bags that I can loan students,, but not enough for everyone.  I am testing all of the students to see what their current reading level is.  Then I will be sending home Book Bag books.

Please go to the Dearborn library, if you don’t already do so.

Thank-you to everyone that has sent in contributions for the class.   I take these all year, because we always need tissues.

Post-its are another need of the class. Please send some in, if you are able to.

Thank-you for your support,

                                    Mrs. Ballnik
