Weekly Reminders for 11-26

Hello parents,

I hope everyone enjoyed their long break. It was nice spending quality time with my family but I did miss my students as well. The class got a chance in the morning to tell us what they did during the break, lots of fun events (even just staying in pjs all day)!

We will continue working on module 3 for math on multiplication and division. If your child is still struggling, I suggest more practice of the skip counting. I am sending strips home with the skip counting facts from 2-9, not including 5. This is a much efficient strategy than just memorizing facts.

We are starting a new science unit on climate and weather which is so much fun! Have your child check the weather and temperature daily so they can observe and feel what it means to be 30 degrees or 10 degrees.

Please remember to send your child with a winter jacket, gloves, hats and boots for outdoor recess. Unless it is raining/snowing or very low temperature, students will go out for recess.

In our class, we do most our teaching whole group and small group. With whole group, students sit on the carpet to be closer to the board and be more attentive. With that said, we do some writing and note taking as we listen and participate through the lessons. To make this process more comfortable, there are lap trays that students can put on the floor to write on verses using the floor. I saw some at Micheal’s for $7 each which will cost me about $147 for a class set. If anyone would like to purchase a few trays for the class, we would be thankful. They don’t ship so you will have to pick up from the store. I will share the link with you, if you are interested. Even if we don’t get a class set, anything can help. Thank you for your support! There is a 30% coupon that you can use too! I will post a picture on the story if you can’t open the link.

Week November 19th Reminders…..

Hello parents,

Since this week is only two days, we will not take a spelling test. Also, there will not be a math packet. Instead, students will take home strips of paper that they can practice skip counting from 2’s through 9’s facts. Skip counting is a great strategy to use for multiplication and division. If you have internet access, IXL is another great resource to use for extra practice for math and language arts.

For reading and writing, students will take home all their books and homework notebook. They should read for 40 minutes daily and do some reading responses which is found in their homework notebook. In addition, write a detailed journal of what they did daily or creating their own stories.

Please sign social studies test and return to school. I will send the math quiz home tomorrow.

PTA popcorn sale is tomorrow, 50 cents a bag with a limit of 4.

The writing clinic is an additional support after school that focuses on writing. If you want your child to participate, please sign and return form. You will have to pick your child up afterwards, there will be no buses.

FREE Movie night will be on November 29th from 4:45-6:15. Child MUST be accompanied by a parent/adult. PTA will be selling pizza, popcorn, water, juice and other goods. Make sure to bring a blanket to sit on and enjoy the movie. I hope to see everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the break 🙂

Weekly Reminders….

Hello parents!

I can’t believe it’s almost thanksgiving break. There are conferences Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00-7:00. I will send a reminder with students in their planners the day before. Please be on time to keep everyone on track.

This week for math, we will continue working on multiplication and division facts 6 and 7. It’s important that students are practicing their facts at home daily, even if they just practice skip counting by 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9. Using IXL is also a great resource. Our mid-module assessment will be next Monday, November 19. There will not be study guide for the mid-module assessment but I will upload a practice test on Google classroom soon.

For social studies, we will continue exploring the Native Americans, pioneer lives and how Michigan became a state. The social studies test will also before thanksgiving break. We will do two days of review in class and students will take home their notes to study from.

The new science unit will start after thanksgiving break on weather and climate. It will be a fun unit!

For ELA, we are working on main idea and supporting details using nonfiction text. Again, IXL is a great resource to use for extra practice on this skill. As for writing, we will continue on our informational piece about one of the Three Fires tribes: Potawatomi, Ojibway, and Ottawa.

This week we are collecting cans for the canned food drive. The last day will be Friday. If everyone can bring at least one can, we will have about 450 cans of food to donate.

The PTA bake sale is Friday. If you would also like to donate, send the treats with your child on Friday.

As always, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

Enjoy your evening,

Mrs. Attia

Parent -Teacher Conferences!

Good morning,

Conferences will start this Thursday! I will send a sticky note as a reminder the day before. Please make sure that you are on time because that will push everyone else’s time if you are not. Every parent meeting will be about 15 minutes not more because it will conflict with the person after you. You may bring your child with you to the conference. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thank you,

Mrs. Attia

PTA is asking….

PTA is looking for gently used donated  costumes for schools families who do not have costumes. We will keep them in our building. Please drop off any clean gently used costumes to the school office. Thank you for your support.

Weekly Reminders….

Hello Parents,

The homework assessments may be challenging but it is important to always complete them. Also, working on ixl and mastering required skills will help improve student performance. Parents make sure you are talking with your child about the importance of school and always trying their best effort.

Our end of module assessment will be November 1st. I will add another practice quiz on Google classroom soon!

Friday is our first science test on Forces. Wednesday students will bring home their notebook to study their notes.

Thursday is our first field trip for the year. We are going to Troy Historical Museum. Please dress students according to the weather. We will be walking in and out of buildings. Also, pack a bagged lunch and make sure everything is disposable.

The form was sent out last week, if you would like to purchase tickets, please fill out form with the money and return to school. Also, our annual pumpkin raffle is this week. It is 25 cents per ticket. Good luck to all!

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Mrs. Attia

Mid-module Practice on Google Classroom

Hello parents,

To help with the mid-module quiz on Friday, I uploaded a mid-module practice test on Google Classroom. Students can click on the questions to practice in addition to IXL.

Students need to go through the dearbornschools.org, click on student resources, then clever. It will say enter email address and password. Username is student ID and password is birth date. For example: username: 20115568@dearbornschools.org and password is mmddyyyy. Students should be familiar with logging in at school, but it will look a little different at home.

Please let me know if it doesn’t work.

Thank you,

Mrs. Attia

Reminders…

Hello parents,

The past few lesson for math were on the metric system. It is a hard concept for many students especially when it is not used in their daily activities. In third grade, it is basic understanding of what is a gram and kilogram. Also, we are learning what is a liter and milliliter. To help support these skills, please have students practice on IXL skill number: BB.14 and BB.15. Remember IXL can also be used on the phone too, you would need to download the App.

If you are having trouble using IXL please let me know.

There is a math quiz coming up this Friday. It is our mid-module assessment for lesson 1 through lesson 11. Have students practice telling time to the nearest minute, and solving word problems using kg , g, L, mL. I have starred where students can practice solving word problems with the 4 operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Thank you,

Mrs. Attia

Few Reminders….

Hello parents,

I have sent home the math, social studies and spelling test today. Please review mistakes, sign tests and return Monday. Also, I have a few more students that I need field trip forms and money, the due date is October 12th. If you don’t want your child to participate, please write that on the form, sign and return.

Next week, we are starting a new module for math on place value and problem solving with units of measure.

For science, we will continue working on forces and motion through using Mystery Science. Watch for pictures on classdojo.

Students have an epic account which can be used at home. Students will have to log-in through google classroom. It has many books that students can read have some read to them.

Don’t forget to have students continue working on IXL and mastering the skills that have stars.

Finally, don’t forget to use classdojo as a quick and great communication to reach me, especially with your busy schedules and I will reply as soon as I can.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Have a wonderful weekend,
