Few Reminders….

Hello parents,

I can’t believe that schools started more than a month ago. It’s been a month full of learning and gaining new experiences together. Like every beginning of the year, teachers and students learn more about each other every day. It’s a proud moment for me when I see how much students transform from September to June. This is also done with the support of parents. Parents and teachers are on the same team and want what is best for their child/student. If you have any questions/concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me.

This week we will be talking our math and social studies test. As you saw with the mid-module assessment, it is not a simple test but students have been working hard the past few weeks. Monday, the students will complete the study guide in class and then take it home. Please make sure students are prating the question format, you can also change the numbers for them to make new problems. The test will be Thursday.

Thursday, students will take home their social studies notebook to study and the test will be Friday. I will also do a whole class review Wednesday and Thursday. Once graded, I will return tests, please sign all tests and have students bring back to school. I collect all tests and will give them back to you in a folder at the end of the year.

IXL is a great resource to use for math and language arts. Please make sure students are logging into IXL at home to practice skills. Have students work on skills that have a star in from of them which are the ones recommended by me. IXL recently created an App for phones too!

Please make sure to always check classdojo, I send many messages throughout the week and it is the best/quickest way to contact me. Go under your phone setting to allow notifications which is the best way to stay notified.

October 25th is our field trip to Troy-Historic Village from 8:50 to 2:00. I will send permission slips tomorrow. If you don’t want your child to participate, please write that on the form, sign and return to me. We need 4 chaperones and if we get more then I will kindly ask you to come with us on the next trip. We have three more field trips after this. Please remember to have your background check up-to-date. The process takes about 10 business days for you to be cleared.

Thank you for all your support,

Mrs. Attia

Eureka Math

Dear Parents,

Attached (students will bring home) is your child’s mid-module assessment. The Dearborn Public Schools District has implemented a new math program called Eureka Math. Last year, the second grade teachers at River Oaks piloted Eureka Math. We recognize the importance of supporting parents during Eureka Math implementation. As you notice, the test consists of multi-step story problems, short answers/explanation of their thinking, and application versus multiple choice.

We know that most parents didn’t learn math the way their children are learning it today, so we understand that you will have questions and concerns. Every night your child brings home the homework and homework helper. The homework helper is a great resource to use because it shows examples for the lesson. We highly recommend saving the homework helpers for future use.

As any new program, it will take some time for students to adjust. As teachers, we are working hard to teach and support our students through this exciting journey.

Please look at the mistakes with your child, sign and return the test.

Thank you,

3rd Grade Team 🙂
