Welcome to week three of remote learning!!! Let me start off by saying yet again that I am so proud of you all! Your hard work, dedication, and willingness to learn (even in these difficult times) has really made me extremely proud to call myself your teacher. For this week, we will be taking a break from google classroom and strictly be focusing our attention to the two assignments in I-Learn.

Agenda for the Week

There are two assignments in I-Learn: the short story titled “Lamb to the Slaughter” and the discussion question about the short story. In the short story, you are NOT annotating like before. I have already highlighted and annotated specific parts of the text and included a text-dependent question. Please read this link for directions on how to respond to the questions. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gfS6Hyi7ZIwUMIuFXl0h7Ii3PhOo0gZx6-1fyuvfQm4/edit?usp=sharing For each question, textual evidence is required and it must be correctly integrated into your response. You can’t just go to the story and answer the questions. You have to read the story through at least ONCE and then do a second read to understand it. It is an awesome story!

When you have completed these text-dependent questions, you are to go to the discussion in I learn titled “Lamb to the Slaughter” discussion and pick ONE of the questions to answer. Your response must include textual evidence that is smoothly integrated.

Due Date

Last week, I asked you all if you prefer that I set a due date or break up the work into daily parts. The responses were pretty split so I will do both.

All the work is due on Friday 4/3/2020.

For those of you who like to have your work broken up into daily parts, your task for today is very straightforward. Read the entire story, and answer the very first text-dependent question that says “How is Mary best described by Dahl? Use textual evidence to support your answer. In your response, state the effect of Dahl’s specific word choice to achieve the effect of Mary’s description.”

Missed opportunity day!!!

Today you have an opportunity to make up any work from THIS week that you may have missed in addition to completing the google classroom assignment. Beginning tomorrow morning, I will begin checking for participation in the I-Learn annotation assignment and completion of the PSAT Writing and Language Analysis.

Recap of assignments this week:

I learn Assignment- Must have posted three times in the article. The posts can either be an annotation or reply to another person.

Google Classroom: Finish last 6 questions of PSAT Writing and Language. In total, you should have 11 questions finished.

Please enjoy your weekend and remain safe! I really do miss all of you!! Limit how much time you are spending on electronic devices and remember to read for at least 20 minutes a day. 🙂

PSAT Writing and Language Analysis

In google classroom, I posted a PDF of a PSAT Language and Writing excerpt. You only have to answer the first 11 questions. Furthermore, these 11 questions will be broken up into two days. The first 5 questions will be completed on Thursday and the last 6 will be completed on Friday. This assignment should take no longer than 15-20 minutes to complete each day. You are very familiar with this assignment and I know you can do it.

Note: please do not send me multiple texts on remind asking if you “have” to do this assignment. My answer is as follows: Yes! You have to do this assignment and it is not optional. At some point, ( I do not know when) you will be assessed. That could be this year or even the start of next year. Many of you are trying to qualify for the Henry Ford Collegiate, Duel Enrollment courses, as well as prepare for AP courses next year. This enrichment activity and all the other enrichment activities will serve the purpose of preparing you for those classes. With that being said, please do the work!

Good morning students!

For today’s task, I would like you to finish reading the article in I-learn and completing one more annotation or reply. I would like you to finish this 8:00 p.m. tonight. I will be checking to see if you have contributed to the discussion of the article.

I also went ahead and posted the assignment for tomorrow and Friday in google classroom. IF you want to get started on that, feel free to do so but you do not technically have to until tomorrow.

As always, stay safe!

Best,

Mrs. Chaaban

Good Morning Students!

Yesterday you should have started the I-Learn Article of the Week annotation assignment. Continue reading the article today and adding another annotation or reply. This assignment will continue through tomorrow night when it will eventually be due.

If you have any questions, please reach out to me! 🙂

Stay safe!

Monday 3/23/2020

Welcome to week two of remote learning! First off, let me say that I am in awe of all your hard work! You guys have went above and beyond to do the work and for that, I am so proud! However, I have received many emails asking if the upcoming work is going to “count” for a grade. Although the actual grade that I input in MiStar can’t actually count in your final grade, these assignments do lend themselves to making you a better reader, writer, and thinker. With that being said, you should (and I would like you to) continue doing these assignments to keep your skill set strong for when we do return to school.

Task for today:

Please go to I-Learn and read the Article of the Week I have assigned for your class. Although the window for this Article of the Week does not close until Wednesday, I do not want this to be a high stress activity but rather, an opportunity for enrichment. With that being said, you only have to read the article for twenty minutes today and complete either an annotation or a reply to an annotation. You only need to include one annotation or reply! We will continue reading and annotating tomorrow and complete this AOW on Wednesday.

Social Work Support:

Mrs. Rumler has asked that all teachers share the following two documents on our blogs for you to reference in this difficult time.

Relaxation-Techniques

Dealing with Stress and Anxiety

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1C36NhyZl6o3UiU-_3bXftw2DBIpqj3HUBHZCugsQ594/edit

As always, I am available by email, remind, and google classroom. Please do this activity in I-Learn.

Stay Safe!
