Happy Earth Day! Wednesday, April 22, 2020
Happy Wednesday! It was nice to visit with many of you on our Google Meet yesterday. They are scheduled on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Hopefully we will see more of our friends next week. Thank you again to those of you who are keeping up on the daily work, reading and following directions carefully, and submitted the work on time. EVERY student needs to make sure that they haven’t had any assignments returned to them. If something has been returned to you, you need to REREAD and follow the directions, fix your mistakes, and resubmit your work.

Happy Tuesday! I am happy that most of you are trying to keep up with the work in a timely manner. The guidelines are stated in the Dearborn Plan – please read through it if you haven’t. (For those of you that don’t complete the work daily, on time, and don’t connect with me – that isn’t a good choice.) You need to meet the district’s expectation to get the “Credit” (or another synonymous score). See you at 11 for today’s Google Meet.

5th Grade Schedule
The three 5th grade teachers collaborated to come up with a schedule to meet the needs of our students AND meet the guidelines set by the district. It is so hard to find a balance. Here it is (for now, hopefully it works well): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-FEszLkd0CS-NPse_5rYodWvOEyvnlABMN6t_FPCj3s/edit?usp=sharing
If you care to, email me your thoughts: AlbertA@dearbornschools.org. Thank you for your concern and support.

Happy Monday! I hope all parents and students have had time to read the Superintendent’s and Dearborn’s Continuity of Learning Plan, https://dearbornschools.org/services/dearborn-public-schools-continuity-of-learning-plan/. Addiionally, Howard’s Plan can be found here: https://howard.dearbornschools.org/2020/04/17/update-superintendent-message-regarding-approval-of-the-continuity-of-learning-plan/#more-3782.
As I have been doing, I will continue posting and assigning approximately 2 hours of online daily. The work does not need to be completed within the two-hours when I make the post for each day, but rather before the next day. MANY students have been completing work late – it has and will be continued to be marked as such. I strongly suggest the work (1) get in on time and (2) be completed to the best of your student’s ability.
Parents – PLEASE make certain your child is reading and following the directions for each day’s assignments. The directions are not always the same. If a student doesn’t meet the posted expectations, the work will be returned for them to fix and resubmit in a timely manner. If the work didn’t meet expectations, has been returned to the student from me, and your child doesn’t fix and resubmit, they will not receive credit for the work.

A Message From Your Specials Teachers:
We would like to invite you to the Specials’ Google Meet! This is a fun opportunity to connect, share and ask questions of your Specials Teachers! Our meet for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will be on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. The nickname for the meet will be specials2420 and will stay the same for our meeting each week. We hope to see you there 🙂
Moby Max
Dear Parents, I am not trying to make this online overwhelming in any way. I chose “Moby Max” because (1) many students are used to the program from 4th grade or earlier (2) these skills are connected to foundation knowledge which is important overall. Many students are simply “clicking through” the Social Studies study skill reviews that I have been assigning. MANY students are receiving scores below 50%. If your child received a score less than 70%, their Moby Max is being reassigned. PLEASE monitor them so they actually learn through this – please don’t let 5th grade have been in vain. Thank you
District Guidelines
Here is the published plan from Dearborn Public Schools: https://dearbornschools.org/services/dearborn-public-schools-continuity-of-learning-plan/. Through that link you are able to see the expectations for different grade levels and explanation of grading for online work.

Happy Friday! I hope today is Old Man Winter’s Last Hurrah for spring. I could use some sunshine AND warm temperatures.
Next week, the District will formally release the expectations for online learning. As I have been informing you, the work is really not considered “Enrichment.” The previous work does count in our records and all of the work will determine the final mark a student receives. Dr. Maleyko will give detail on all of that next week. I have been in contact with all families to alert them of missing work, if applicable. PLEASE stay on top of the work – it is expected to be approximately 2 hours/day. This is more than manageable. PLEASE monitor your child and make sure you SEE the work, rather than simply asking if it is completed. I will continue to do what I can to help each student. Thank you for doing your part at home. Email me at AlbertA@dearbornschools.org if any questions or concerns arise.
- read leisurely for 30 minutes
- help your parents (perhaps shovel the snow if needed)
- Math: Module 6 Lesson 17 video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQbZI9zoUTg&t=43s, Learn and Succeed problems from lesson 17, Zearn to the end of lesson 17. A “Parent Letter for Topic C” (lessons 13-17) AND a good review of main ideas for you is loaded in GC – please make sure you look at it (perhaps even print it out).
- 180 Days of Language Day 10 – follow the instructions in Google Classroom
- Moby Max: MANY of you still did not do the assignment from Tuesday, Wednesday, and yesterday and are VERY behind. If you didn’t do Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and yesterdays, then you have 4 to do for today. Tuesday’s S. S. review was on “Comparing/Contrasting.” Wednesday’s S.S. review was on “Drawing Conclusions.” Yesterday’s review was “Classify and Categorize.” Today the review is on “Identifying Main Ideas & Supporting Details.” These are great foundational reviews on material you have already been taught – but need to maintain cognitive ability with. Due by the end of today.
- Reading: Treasures p. 94-106 (1) read “Ultimate Field Trip 5: Blasting Off to Space Academy” (2) answer questions p. 107 #1-5 in GC. READ and FOLLOW the directions for the questions carefully please.
Thursday, April 16, 2020
Happy Thursday! I was able to “see” my mom yesterday when I dropped off groceries for her and my father in her garage. (I didn’t see my dad, however, as he sleeps frequently.) They are doing as well as can be expected and for that I am VERY grateful.
I have been able to make contact via phone or email with many of you. Please answer the phone during school hours if you see “private” as it might be me checking in. You can email me atAlbertA@dearbornschools.org. I am typically available between 9 a.m. -1 p.m. for “office hourse” for immediate contact. Keep in mind we have many virtual staff, grade level, and committee meetings, too, during this time. I will respond to you ASAP. Addtionally, if you send me an email, I will typically respond within 24 hours. Thank you
Please have your child keep up with the work as much as possible. It is very MINIMAL work. (There are guidelines that need to be met regarding the work.)
