Thank you, Homeroom Moms!

Posted by Ann Albertson on October 25, 2013 in Class News |

We finished our MEAP testing earlier this week … HURRAY! We should have less changes in our regular schedule now, and we will be able to have our routines and regular lessons to get our work accomplished. A big thank you to our homeroom moms, Mrs. Amy Roman, Mrs. Amy Moran, Mrs. Kris Flanery, and Mrs. Adrian Lash for serving us healthy snacks each morning before we tested!

Please check with your child regarding Halloween this upcoming week. To help out with the parties, specific students/families have been assigned to send in something for Halloween. Thank you in advance for your help with this.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Supplementary Links – check them out!

Posted by Ann Albertson on October 6, 2013 in Class News |

I have added many links to educational sites for Math, Reading and Science that have games disguised as learning. Check them out under the “Supplementary Resources” section on the right column on this page. Most of them are free, but you might have to set up an account (no charge though) in order for your child to use the site.

MEAP testing

Posted by Ann Albertson on October 3, 2013 in Class News |

The MEAP test is scheduled to start next week. In an effort to help your child perform to their best, please make sure they have a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast.

Our homerooms moms will be bringing in a snack for us each morning before we begin the test. Please send in $5 with your child to offset the cost.

Thank you!

Posted by Ann Albertson on September 17, 2013 in Class News |

Try to stop by for Open House on Thursday!

  • From 6-7 p.m., your child can show you around the classroom, introduce you to me, etc. Don’t forget to visit the Special Area teachers, too!
  • From 7-8 p.m., Mr. Denison will have a meeting with the parents.

We are into our regularly scheduled programming at this time in September. I realize that some students might still be adjusting to 5th grade, but we need to get fairly structured with our daily agenda in order to stay on track with our 5th grade content. With that in mind, please make sure that you are checking your child’s planner daily. They will get homework every day. For the past week, I have assigned a math worksheet along with something else. Typically, 30 – 45 minutes will be needed to complete the homework. It is a good habit to not only ask if your student completed the work, but to see what they have done.

A few guidelines:

  • In Math, students will have to show work for each problem. No work = no credit. Students should use their reference book and their notebooks to help them, if needed.
  • Students can and should take home textbooks, notebooks, and folders to help themselves.
  • New Spelling vocabulary is given on Monday. Students are expected to write each work 3 times each and use the word properly in a sentence. Students have all week during our “Rotations” to work on Spelling Word Work. If they have not used their time wisely, they should take home their notebook on Thursday to finish up whatever is still incomplete. Additionally, they should review their words to a Spelling test on Friday.
  • Fifth grade also has another spelling list of “37 Words.” Students were given this list the first week of school. A couple of times each card marking, I will retest them on these words. If they achieve a score of 100% by the end of the school year, they receive a special certificate at our Awards Ceremony in June.
  • Make sure your child has a quiet place to do their homework, without TV or other distractions.
  • If there are questions that need to be answered, students should use complete sentences (using part of the question in their answer).  Have them reread their answers for details and accuracy. (No wimpy sentences allowed.)

We are off to a great start! Thank you for your support and assistance.
