Weekly Spelling Guidelines/Note Sent Home Monday
September 25, 2017
Dear Parents,
Each week the students will be given the new spelling list. After I go through the spelling pattern and words, students are given time to copy it down completely. Last week prior to Daily 5 rotations, I discussed the expectations with the students of what they need to complete for the weekly spelling: ALL words written 3x each and content words defined.
If students are not finished with these by the end of Thursday’s Daily 5 rotations, they are reminded to take them home for homework. Please talk to your student about getting their weekly spelling completed. Any work not complete results in an “incomplete” in my gradebook and lowers their grade.
*This note was sent home on Monday. If you haven’t already done so, please sign it and have your student return it tomorrow.
Math Test on Monday
The unit 1 Math test will be on Monday, September 25th. Students should review their notes and practice problems from their notebooks and worksheets.
National Peace Day 2017
Howard Elementary students and staff recognized National Peace Day this past Wednesday with our annual “Pinwheels for Peace” assembly outside near our peace pole. It was wonderful to hear the students singing the peace song in various languages.
Upcoming: Quiz and Test
Social Studies: Tomorrow we will have a brief quiz on the regions in the United States. Students have a map with the 5 regions outlined. They need to know those region names. Additionally, they might be also asked about which regions a few specific states belong to.
Math: We will most likely have our Unit 1 assessment either Friday or Monday. It will be on the following areas: factor rainbows, factor arrays, prime vs. composites, and algebraic and numeric expressions. Algebraic and numeric expressions are very challenging for many students at this time of the school year. These concepts will be repeatedly reviewed and assessed each card marking. By spring, students should be meeting or mastering the expectations.
*Students have notes in their math notebooks and several worksheets from homework to guide their review for the test. Additionally, we practice some extra problems in our notebooks a couple of days before the test. They should review their notes, homework worksheets, and practice problems before the test.
