Gingerbread House Project & Book Exchange

Posted by Ann Albertson on December 15, 2017 in Class News |

Gingerbread House Project

Prior to winter break, a gingerbread project is planned for the students. This project will cover the skill areas of math and science. Specific skills the students will work on are: measurement, predictions, outcomes, sequencing, and cooperative learning.

In order for all students to be actively involved, each student is asked to bring in the following items by Tuesday, December 19:

  • styrofoam base, cookie sheet or cardboard covered with foil

(this only needs to be somewhat larger than the carton itself)

  • pint sized milk carton (students may bring one from home or use one from school lunch)
  • one container of ready-made frosting
  • plastic knife
  • one package of graham crackers
  • candy, cookies, and other edible items for decorating their house

Book Exchange

A holiday book exchange is planned for Friday, December 22. Boys are asked to bring in a new chapter book for another boy in the class, and girls are asked to bring in a new chapter book for another girl in the class. Please try to keep a five dollar limit. (Or a student can bring in a book that either a boy or girl would enjoy.)

Wrap the book and indicate who is giving the book by writing your child’s name on the outside of the package.  We will exchange book on Friday, during our party. Boys will receive a book from another boy, and girls will receive a book from another girl.

Please Give Reminders

Posted by Ann Albertson on December 5, 2017 in Class News |

Please continue to remind your student about the appropriate behaviors in school. Recently, there has been an increase in talking, disruptions, and other poor choices during class lessons and learning unfortunately. As we progress in the school year, the number of reminders and warnings will decrease. While students might not want to get a card flip, they aren’t always making good choices to show that.

The work load increases as we progress through the school year and our pace picks up. Additionally, the work will get tougher and more rigorous.

Please continue to remind your student to make good, positive, responsible choices.

Thank you for helping me with this!

Thank you for your generosity!

Batteries for Puerto Rico!

Posted by Ann Albertson on November 27, 2017 in Class News |

Batteries for Puerto Rico will begin today!

Many months after the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico is still in crisis! Over 60% of the population has no power. It is estimated that it will take months to restore the power grid in the entire Island. Let’s help! Our school will be having a battery drive starting today and ending Wednesday, December 6th. These batteries will help operate flashlights, lanterns, blood pressure machines, blood sugar monitors, radios, and other battery operated resources. *Most needed battery sizes are C and D.

The class that donates the most batteries will win a donut breakfast! Please have all batteries turned in to the box outside the office labeled “Batteries for Puerto Rico.”  Place batteries in a bag labeled with the child’s name and teacher.

Thank you!!!

Unit 4 Math Assessment: Thursday, November 30th

Posted by Ann Albertson on November 21, 2017 in Class News |

The unit 4 math assessment will be Thursday, November 30th (when we return from Thanksgiving break). It will assess the following content:

  • long division
  • partial-quotient division
  • interpreting the remainder division
  • multiple pricing/unit pricing
  • multiplying with base ten pictures
  • dividing with base ten pictures

Students should be reviewing their notes and homework from this unit over break.

Some students have not been completing their math homework carefully and thoroughly. Parents, please monitor your students math homework to make sure they are meeting homework expectations: all steps shown, work is neat, work is legible. They will always have practice problems in their notebooks to assist them.

Students are reminded to write the notes neatly, carefully, and completely in class. While I work on this with them daily, a reminder from you will help.
