Howard Elementary: “Read at Home Plan”

Our goal at Howard School is to ensure all of our students are successful at reading. The “Read at Home Plan” promotes engaging students and their families with reading on a daily basis. Below are the grade-level requirements for reading at home every day. We ask that you talk to your children about what they are reading each day. This daily routine will make a positive impact on your child’s success in school.

I told the students about this site earlier this week. Mr. Nussbaum has great information on here to enhance our learning of our Social Studies content:

Copied from Mrs. Lazar’s Howard School post:
Due to the extreme cold and windchill that will be setting in this afternoon, we will be adjusting our dismissal for the safety and warmth of students and staff. Our student valet system will make this easy to do and with your cooperation, things will run smoothly. Thank you for your assistance ahead of time and thank you to the Howard staff and parent volunteers for making it easy to successfully coordinate efforts that require a lot of support to work:
Your dismissal driving route will remain the same, just keep in mind the following:
- Please make sure you have your student valet sign where it is easy for staff to see.
- Staff will be stationed at the student drop off (where the old bus lane used to be/in front of the flagpole) they will radio in your child’s name and your child will then be sent out from the door closest to the flagpole.
- Students who exit on Lawrence will still exit on Lawrence, please just make sure if you pick up on this north side of the school that you have your sign displayed visibly. If you have misplaced your sign, you can write your child’s name in large print on a piece of paper.
- You will not see the students outside – Students will wait inside until their name is called
- Please remain in your car
*****This means that traffic might move a little bit slower this afternoon. Please BE PATIENT, we want to ensure that the students stay safe and warm and this is the most efficient way to do so.
Several parents have been calling in inquiring about school tomorrow. Please remember this is a District wide decision. For information on school closings, please check the District website at dearbornschools.org

With our unexpected day off today, I only have tomorrow to get groups sorted and things finalized for our field trip.
Please make certain your student brings the permission slip and the $4.00 for lunch tomorrow if they are participating.
It’s a great field trip! The students are really going to love it.

Several students are behind in Zearn – they need to get caught up and finished!
Test is tomorrow! (It is challenging, but I have done everything I can to prepare them.) Getting caught up in Zearn will help!

We will be finishing up Module 2 in Math on Monday, and begin our review for the end of the module assessment. Students were assigned some problems from their workbook and directed to start reviewing for the assessment on Thursday. I returned their Mid-Module Assessments so they can look through those problems, in addition to reviewing some problems that might have caused them difficulty.
For Social Studies, I uploaded some reading material into our Google Classroom on the 13 Colonies – the New England Colonies, the Middle Colonies, and the Southern Colonies. We have done some work and reading on them from our atlas. If students get time this weekend, please ask them to read through the Google Classroom packet, too. The S.S. Assessment for Unit 3 will be on Friday. On Monday, they will receive the S.S. study guide to start working on that.
We were able to finish our Language and Reading NWEA assessment this week. Next week, we will tackle Math and Science in NWEA. Their overall NWEA results will be sent home in approximately 2 weeks.
